Since the voting for this award has closed, Joe Mazzulla lost 4 playoff games as a favorite to the 76ers. 2 of them favored by double digits. 3 of them at home. He pulled all of his starters in a close out Game 6 on the road down 14 with 8 minutes left (which looks increasingly dumber if you watched Game 1 of the Cavs/Knicks series) so that he could make his first adjustment of the series in Game 7 -- a starting lineup that had played 0 mins together this season and went down 9-0 and eventually 30-15 in the first quarter. He lost a series to the 76ers he was a -900 favorite in (-8000 after Game 4) for his 3rd playoff departure in 4 years as a -500 series favorite or larger. After all 4 losses to the 76ers, Joe said in some form that he felt the shots were fine but did not go in. Brad Stevens unprompted opened his end of season press conference by saying he felt the Celtics failed to generate quality looks. I love almost everything about the job Stevens has done as GM, but his loyalty to Mazzulla puzzles me a bit. Clearly the championship season, which I'm thankful for, gives Joe a longer leash in Brad's eyes than in mine. Joe was not even the first choice for this job, but landed it because Udoka did what he did and Will Hardy left for Utah. So yes, I think Mazzulla did a great job motivating this group in the regular season, but the consistent massive underachieving in the postseason means it is time to move on. The Celtics are measured by championships and they have already potentially left more on the table. Can't let that continue to happen.
