Super excited for this to finally be available! I started collecting this dataset when I first joined King's in 2021, and this paper has been in the works for a couple of years, so feels like a long time coming!
Replying to @JoeTaylorPsych
@JoeTaylorPsych et al. find that cuff-pressure algometry produced robust conditioned pain modulation effects but showed poor test-retest reliability, indicating dynamic state-dependent rather than stable trait-like pain modulation processes #PainReports bit.ly/4cJvcy4
A discussion on the state vs. trait nature of CPM is presented, calling into question the ability of our current methods to index an individual's capacity for endogenous modulation.
A huge thank you to all those involved in the project @LiviaSimela @GravenNielsen @mattos96 and Kirsty Bannister, but most importantly to my co-first author and writing, graphing, data analysing and BBQ rib parter in crime @lawn_tim.

Super excited to share the latest work I've been involved in. Was a pleasure to help run the data processing and stats with @ZoeRutter2, suggesting that inflamatory arthritis may have centrally mediated mechanisms early on it's progression.

Our paper is now out in print in @PAINthejournal, and editor's choice for the month 🙌. Re-posting this thread summarising our work 👇🧵
Our latest paper from @bannister_lab is now out in Pain 🥳. In a translational rat and human study, myself and @JoeTaylorPsych describe the neuronal & perceptual correlates respectively of high frequency electrocutaneous stimulation-induced sensitisation

The use of VR for pain management is here to stay, but are we fully exploiting its potential? Check out our fresh-of-oven editorial to know how we can tap into pain mechanisms through VR! @SamNeuroPain @BJAJournals @UniofExeter @ExeterBRC

Conference season over and back in the UK. Been a hectic 8 weeks but it makes all the hours and hours of data collection worth it!
Starting to feel vaguely like a proper academic, i.e. updating old powerpoints from old presentations with new data and getting to catch up with people from the field that I only get to see at conferences.
More data to collect, and much more writing to do to get these results out into the world but good to get out the lab and up a mountain every now and again. Thank you do my supervisors @mattos96 and @bannister_lab (and now @LiviaSimela) for their continual support.

Half of people with inflammatory arthritis face significant mental health challenges as early as at diagnosis, negatively affecting their disease outcomes & quality of life. Our study highlights the urgent need for better mental health support. Read more👉tinyurl.com/26s6ek5z

Very excited to be sharing our review of temporal summation in people with gastrointestinal #pain (#IBS, #IBD, and #FGID) with @bannister_lab, @RonaMossMorris, and @MM_Physio 1/4

Happy to share our latest publication: ‘Symptom-free’ when @IBD is in remission: Expectations raised by online resources. We found that websites commonly define remission as “few or no symptoms” even though ongoing symptoms are often observed.

Super excited to say my first joint first author paper with @bannister_lab is now out in @PAINthejournal😁🥳
@DrRyanPatel and I examined balance between excitatory signaling and descending control in the generation of hyperalgesia in both rats and humans...
