We almost had two people convicted as criminals for the crime of asking MPs questions about policy
what the fuck is going on with the UK? i’m saying this as someone who’s not even from the UK, but the government keeps passing laws you’d expect from a third-world country. porn prison, what’s next? going to jail for criticizing the government? how do people in the UK just put up with this?

It’s not just the courts. Global/LBC placed these restrictions - that exist forever - into my employment contract. Silencing women who want to speak out about their experiences is a game powerful men (and some women) have enjoyed for years. The Global/LBC’s lawyers also have ethical questions to answer.
Replying to @DanNeidle
How could lawyers justify asking a court to prohibit speech that couldn't conceivably constitute harassment - including private conversations with friends and family, and reports to the police?

The BBC’s veteran World Affairs Editor has made a remarkable discovery: Israel’s strategy is ethnic cleansing and land theft. I hope the BBC is paying him well. It takes real investigative talent to uncover these things.

Wild thing to be shouting at a Jewish man btw
The Greens "Zionism is Racism" motion is a disgrace. As politicians, it is our responsibility to confront such insidious hate, and we will do so, @Councillorsuzie tells the London Assembly

Seriously though, this is as awful as it is unhinged from Susan Hall and certainly worthy of a complaint, I’m surprised the chair even allowed this. Once again, solidarity with Zack, for having to endure this bullshit. What a despicable woman.
Conservative London Assembly member Susan Hall accuses Zack Polanski of not caring about the Jewish community. Zack Polanski responds, "To have an Assembly member from the Conservatives point at me and pretend she cares about Jewish people, when you are weaponising anti-semitism - shame on you"

I haven't been on this site for a bit. But I haven't seen anyone share the photo the New Statesman staff staged in 2013 of Russell Brand as Christ, and themselves as his disciples. It seems to have been scrubbed from the web. It made me angry then and it makes me angry now.

Might be an even bigger mistake to think that people don't mean it when they are telling us loud and clear that they just don't want the latest environment killing, get super rich quick scheme for overseas investors, that passes for "growth" these days...
A common Westminster mistake is to look at big moments in US politics and assume the same battle lines will be drawn here. AI and the mid-terms are a good example of this. The easy assumption is that a big polarising debate on data centres is about to hit the UK, just because it has in the US. But that ignores two important facts. First, the government has watched the free-for-all in parts of the US, has learned lessons from it, and is setting out a different approach. We do need to secure grid connections for strategic data centres, and we are setting up a Ministerial Control Centre to do just that. But move too quickly without bringing communities with you, and people understandably start worrying about the impact on their area and asking what they’re getting in return. That's why we're putting protections in place, to prioritise data centres only where they meet the tests set out in our Data Centre Covenant published at the Budget. This means data centres have to lower electricity bills for other users, minimise and report on water usage, support our reindustrialisation objectives and support UK sovereignty. And crucially, it means agreeing to the principle that local communities around new infrastructure should share in its benefits - both through jobs and wider support. Second, our problem is not that we have an abundance of data centre construction that our politics needs to reckon with, it's that build out is slower here than it could be. 15 of the world’s top 20 largest data centre markets are in the US. None are in the UK. The pace of investment here is, frankly, too low for what we need to stay at the forefront as AI technology develops. High electricity costs and slow grid connections (thanks, Conservatives) mean we haven't been near the top of the list for investment, and too often we're reliant on AI infrastructure overseas. The Budget last week set out a new direction to change this for all business and households, but we can't turn this round overnight. Data Centres today are essential infrastructure. They underpin much of everyday life in the UK, from banking and shopping, to public services, to helping doctors screen for diseases. AI makes that infrastructure even more important and as AI becomes more widely used across out economy, Britain will need more of the data centres that support it. But we won’t allow that growth to come at any cost. We’ll protect communities. And we’ll make sure local people benefit.

So Palantir buying a Labour Lord was good value for their money after all. Cash for access. Stinks.
Palantir’s Tom Watson, ex-Labour MP, wrote to Yvette Cooper last month saying the controversial US company could help boost the UK’s tech sovereignty, letters show. Weeks later, sources say the UK is extending its NHS contract for two more years bit.ly/4zrbMYF

It’s important to understand here that states aren’t allowed to sue for libel. There is no need for the BBC to do this, they just want to. (And tbf, Victoria Derbyshire makes it very clear she doesn’t want to say it).
This is absolutely ridiculous and outrageous from the BBC.

For a Prime Minister who is supposedly championing devolution and greater local decision making Burnham sure likes bossing his local parties around, even if it’s at the expense of local communities.
New: Defra Secretary Angela Eagle says "what happens in Sheffield will be a matter for both the party chair and the NEC to decide. "I hope the Labour group in Sheffield will bear that in mind as they make that decision" Negotiations are continuing locally in the council
