There is absolutely no way a team is ever planting in Mexico City. Travel, safety, and economics make that nearly impossible. You’re telling me you’re going to have guys living in Mexico City 6 months out of the year? Then you’re going to play games at over 7200 feet? Oh and traveling back and forth through there regularly? How this is being used as any kind of leverage is absolutely bonkers.
Seattle is no longer considered a lock for an NBA expansion team, Adam Silver has informed team owners, per @WindhorstESPN. The league is reportedly using Mexico City as a potential alternative to pressure Seattle’s bidding group into raising its offer. (h/t @TheNBABase )

the Dream playing in *their home arena* becoming a culture war issue perfect way to end the WNBA season
Deafening silence from the “protect girls’ sports” crowd on this.

The Watson sanctimony on here is OTT This is the ideal way for a PBP to deal with it Acknowledge, move forward It's a nationally televised game, the viewer comes first Take the moral crusading to twitter
This is gross and nasty behavior from men in a position of power speaking to a national audience. We need to be better. Have some accountability.

Simple rebuttal: Something can be both prescient and dated Season 1 had them using pagers and payphones in 2002 Sim cards were a plot device in S3 Newspapers with no mention of the internet in '07
You must have watched a different version of The Wire than I did. Literally everything The Wire tackled was prescient — political corruption, the annihilation of the working class, the shameful public education system, cyclical poverty, etc. You like what you like but this is a confusing take.

man there's a level of telling on yourself when white folks start putting white Miami Cubans in a certain box
1. Amazing this grifter literally can’t count to two. 2. I saw someone else do this earlier today in a whole column on the subject and I really wish y’all would stop lumping Latinos in with white people. ICE most definitely isn’t making that mistake so you shouldn’t either.

The academics + wonks don't realize that fans in these markets enjoyed having the games and fan fests this summer, creating memories that will last a lifetime Non-fans have already forgotten it happened and don't care about hotel occupancy rates
The unfortunate thing is absolutely nobody will learn any lessons from this, continuing to believe local communities profit from large sports events.

This gen is coming back to baseball with age, but the falloff was: - Shift from steroid era (awesome to watch) to Moneyball era (awful to watch) - Steroids ruining stats/history this gen was raised on by parents - Four-hour Yanks/Sox games - Yanks/Sox-centrism in general
Why do elder millennials hate baseball?

I haven't been a fan of Torre's presentation of this story But ESPN not triple verifying anything Shelburne says these days is malpractice Have heard DVN is livid to be lumped in w the others on that story
None of three ESPN reporters who penned that story trashing @pablofindsout’s reporting on the Clippers gave Pablo Torre a heads up and his statement post-pub wasn’t added. That’s so weak and not how reporters should operate. (Via @NatalieKorach, Status) 🔗 status.news/p/espn-pablo-tor…

This site loves conflation man. What high profile trad’l journalists were criticizing Pablo? A big problem with how journalism is perceived is yall call the podcast bros, pundits radio hosts & fan pages “journalists,” too. Credentialed reporters were not the bulk of the skeptics
I really think it’s a terrible look for the NBA media that the reaction from so many journalists and writers when faced with one of the biggest scandals in recent memory was to say that they didn’t care and were annoyed that someone was looking into it

Fennessey is high on his own supply Worried about the ability to objectively critique **netflix** movies?? I'd avoid publicly critiquing the guy who separates you from being a respected letterboxder Ask Sepinwall how replaceable tv/film critics are w/o the right platform

This is going around but its not what happened Before ChatGPT was a sponsor, Simmons did GPT Ebert reviews for movies Ebert never reviewed His co-hosts hated it. He eventually stopped, and joked about it This was months, maybe years, before GPT was a sponsor
I listen to a lot of Ringer stuff but I had no idea Bill Simmons, whose stuff I've enjoyed for like 25 years, used ChatGPT (a sponsor) to have Roger Ebert review films he never reviewed in real life what with being dead! 😟😟😟😟 defector.com/bill-simmons-is…

Twitter doesn't translate to TV
On CNN NewsNight, The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill argues that capitalism is oppressive and bound up in white supremacy. Kmele Foster: “It's one thing to not think capitalism isn't working ideally. It's another thing entirely to insist that it is oppressive, that it is bound up with white supremacy. Hill: “How is it not?” Foster: “I've always preferred Adam Smith's description of capitalism as the natural system of liberty. The idea that people can own property, that they can exchange it freely with one another for profit, that they can find ways to put their resources to good use and profit in a way that is actually beneficial to everyone else, that there can be gains from trade that are mutually beneficial. These are foundational ideas that have created more wealth than any other system in human history. That is what capitalism is! That is not white supremacy.” Hill: “Do you think capitalism has always worked that way?” Foster: “I've actually just described the basic facts of the economics.” Hill: “That ain't how it's always worked.” Foster: “Slavery is an institution that is older than writing. It predates capitalism. The notion that white supremacy and all these other things are bound up with capitalism in an intrinsic and fundamental way is so absurd and laughable, it barely needs to be defended.” Hill: “How was it absurd?” Foster: “It barely needs to be defended.” Hill: “What do you mean it barely needs to be defended?” Foster: “You actually have to articulate what the connections is. How are these two things the same? I'm talking about private property, the right to exchange and sell with whomever you like. What does that have to do with white supremacy? … What is the white supremacy dynamic of private property?“
