Suicide found the PGA Tour this week but it wasn’t its first time finding Shane Lowry. He’s lost three Clara schoolmates to it. Lowry stopped and reflected on “the lowest place in the world” and plenty more, in typically raw fashion. For @ExaminerSport irishexaminer.com/sport/golf…

There are few more revolting sights than a careless, over-paid Murdoch hack smearing a principled writer who is bravely opposing the brutal slaughter of innocent civilians, many of them children
Boulton "she, in common with a lot of people in Ireland is taking a very strong pro Palestine & I have to say anti Israel & anti Jewish stance" Adam, can you provide evidence that Sally Rooney is taking an anti Jewish stance? Or are you in fact lying to smear critics of Israel?

Tani Oluwaseyi hadn't scored a goal for club or country since mid-January, 28 games ago. Since Nov 1 last year, he'd scored just 3 goals in his last 46 games. After a very mixed international window with Canada, this is a hell of a way to bounce back. Great to see. Good on him.

When I chatted with Jesse Marsch last wk he worried that “in 6 years people can go numb to your voice”. His tone was v different last night, as blunt as he’s been. He wants Canada to be more decisive. But Marsch needs to be flexible too. For @TorontoStar thestar.com/sports/soccer/ca…

On a night of awfully fine margins in the Twin Cities, a pair of enduring issues cost Canada. Finding and finishing quality chances is still a problem for Marsch’s team and set-pieces remain ineffective. A solid window ends on a sour note. For @TorontoStar thestar.com/sports/soccer/wh…

This Canada XI is not a tall one by any means. It's possibly the smallest of the Marsch era. So set-pieces might not be a huge advantage. But mother of god... the Canadian deliveries tonight have been absolutely awful so far. Marsch has been visibly annoyed at a few efforts.

That was as ragged a 15-minute spell as Canada have had in quite some time. Very lucky to be going in just 1-0 down as they were creaking and pretty much playing with 10 men (Eustaquio in visible pain) with US camped in the box. Changes forced but badly needed too.

Having started quite well, a bad couple of minutes for Canada here. US got in behind far too easily through Alex Freeman and Jesse Marsch's defence concedes for the first time since the World Cup. Ralph Priso has had an edgy first half hour. Tani Oluwaseyi booked soon after.

After enough pyro to scatter every loon in Minnesota, we’re about ready to go. Vikings kicker (and entire offense) Will Reichard led the stadium in a U-S-A chant. Atmosphere is lively.

It is a *gorgeous* evening for a game here in Minnesota. Stat time: from 1885 to 2024 Canada had just two wins over the Americans on US soil. Under Jesse Marsch they’ve already doubled that total. Tonight they go for three in a row.

The current climate doesn't match up but, on the pitch, Canada and the US need one another more than ever. In this World Cup cycle, a genuine — and intense — rivalry is essential. In word and deed, Jesse Marsch is ensuring it's heated. For @TorontoStar thestar.com/sports/soccer/th…

Sat down with Jesse Marsch this week. It was lively. On Mark Carney: “Could a US president ever be an Everton fan? No chance” On Balogun affair: “This is why everyone around the world hates America” On Man City: “They should have to go down. Everyone knew” theguardian.com/football/202…

Just the nonuple substitution for Jesse Marsch here on the hour mark in Montreal. Samuel Piette will get his own moment pretty soon.

Daniel Jebbison has had by some distance his best performance in a Canada shirt here in Montreal but just on halftime has absolutely Iwelumo'd one. Slipped cross from Jonathan David, open goal, Jebbison got his side-footed finish all wrong.

Minutes after Jonathan David whipped wide to end a superb attacking move, Canada take the lead vs Peru. Starts with a subtle wee pass from Richard Chukwu and Jebbison was again heavily involved. Jacob Shaffelburg buries his first Canada goal for two years.

After some, ahem, issues with the anthem (singer apparently practised it 4 times!) the Montreal crowd stepped in and saved the day. Canada are trying to keep them lively with a busy start here. Nathan Saliba is keen to be involved in everything, Daniel Jebbison has been bright.

A long warm embrace between Ismaël Konè and Max Crépeau in front of the bench here in Montreal as Canada warm up. Konè is convalescing from his broken leg back home and Crépeau is absent from this camp after the recent passing of his father.

Moïse Bombito, recovering from very recent surgery, has now joined them down on the sidelines. I know it’s mentioned often but it says so much about the spirit of this team when they show up for each other.
