Even parents who don’t care much about academics tend to be wowed when they hear something like “At the current pace your child will complete 3rd grade math in about 6 weeks” and then it actually happens. That kind of individualization and precision with pacing feels like magic.
One fun part of being an @Alphaschool parent is seeing your child's metrics & pace of learning.
E.g. based on this, with a moderate amount of homework during the week my daughter could finish Kindergarten math by the New Year.
I was sent to the principal for doing multiplication in 3rd grade, my parents never let me back in a government school again. I became a ed reformer that day chilling with the principal in his office.
When my daughter was bored in kindergarten, her teacher told her to read her book upside down
When my 5th grader wanted to look at an algebra textbook in his spare time, the school told him it "wasn't approved for his grade"
If your kid is a fast learner, their learning needs will not be supported.
And if you ask for more academically challenging material, teachers and principals will act like you're making a completely unreasonable request, or simply can you a liar. Maybe to your face, maybe behind your back. (Some of those people are even here on X!)
But at the end of the day, remember that this is your child. They're counting on your to stand up for them.
School isn't just for struggling kids. It's for high achievers and fast learners also.
Every kid deserves to have their learning needs met. Every kid deserves to feel like they belong.
Don't ever let anyone make you feel guilty for advocating for your child.

SAT scores were released today.
Three girls in my Alpha High group were described by their parents as “not math/science girls.”
They’ve been focused on other pursuits—launching a Broadway musical, competing for Miss Teen USA, building millions of TikTok followers, and becoming a nationally recognized teen dating expert.
Their SAT Math scores:

This study found that traditional private schools are not as effective as AI tutors.
@AlphaSchoolATX has been saying this for some time.
In fact, there is nothing revolutionary about it. There is a reason that the Ancient Greeks utilized personalized tutors. The problem has always been how do we achieve this at scale? How do we ensure every student across the globe has access to a personalized tutor?
AI has the answer and soon every educational requirement required will be available on a tablet for less than 1K.
Private schools are the most expensive placebo in America. Nowhere else will you pay $250k+ for something that has so little impact on school achievement.

I rebuilt $100,000,000 worth of ed-tech in 50 hours.
Then I made a deal with my school's founder: if every single student using my new software doesn't score a 5 on their AP exam, I drop out of high school.
40+ students (including myself). AP exams are in May.

Crazy thing is, this is not our first elementary schooler to learn calculus. Not too long ago we had a 5th grader get a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam. He started in pre-algebra as a 4th grader and covered all of high school math in a year. This is a trend, not a one-off.
For anyone wondering how a third-grader can complete six years' worth of math in a single year.
This knowledge graph spans 3,000 math topics, from 4th grade to the university level, providing the perfect basis for mastery learning.
Students can go as fast or far as they want! There are no restrictions whatsoever. The only requirement is that they must demonstrate mastery of each topic before moving on to the next.
Kids are capable of incredible things when given that kind of freedom and support.

Today feels big. My third grader earned another stripe on his BJJ belt and then casually finished the last lesson of his Calc BC course.
This kid, who just over a year ago claimed he hated math, fell in love with the subject when he started @_MathAcademy_. He became thirsty for more and more math. He has been setting his own goals, and they vastly exceeded anything I would have dared set for him.
He finished 6th through 12th grade math in just over a year.
He hates reviews 😂 and loves new lessons. He doesn't like calculations but loves concepts. He takes math notebooks to restaurants so he can toy with proofs while he waits for his food. And he cannot wait for the MA Abstract Algebra course (@ninja_maths, counting on you!)
Me and 100 other devs are making sure the learning apps are the worst now that they'll ever be.
The gap to other schools will only get bigger from here.
We should start measuring in standard deviations instead of percentiles.
