I want you to do me a favor Look at these random 1970s living rooms None of them are overly expensive in their furnishings. No crazy lighting set ups. But the color choices are great. Each part of the room feels like its own little world. The attention to detail is immaculate. Now ask yourself what made society accept today’s boring, lifeless, grey interiors where 90% of look the same. It’s a big why and needs answering.

In a 1958 speech, Egyptian President Nasser describes to an audience the idea of the Muslim Brotherhood to force women to wear a hijab. Both he and the audience laugh at the thought of forcing millions of women to cover up. Today, most Egyptian women wear the hijab.

Drag pioneer Vicky Lane’s 5-decade career is the stuff of legend. Raised in Chicago’s South Side before moving to NYC in 1967 at 17, Vicky made her Montreal debut at PJ’s cabaret in 1972. The rest, as they say, is history 💋 Our @Fuguesmagazine Q&A ⤵️ fugues.com/2026/10/28/the-le…

Tonight, my family and I experienced something no family should ever have to go through. Our restaurant, Singh’s Dining Restaurant in Hammersmith, was attacked by a group of Islamists. We had been receiving death threats every single day, including one that specifically warned us that 28 October would be our last day. We raised our concerns, and the @metpoliceuk were aware of the threats. Yet tonight, we found ourselves facing the very nightmare we had feared. My daughter had to close the shutters just in time. I cannot even begin to imagine what might have happened if she hadn’t acted so quickly. We could have lost someone in our family tonight. The attackers reportedly tried for a long time to break through the shutters to get inside, leaving shortly before the police arrived. We have serious concerns about how the attackers knew when to leave, and whether they were alerted before the police arrived. These concerns deserve a thorough and transparent investigation. Tonight, I am left facing a heartbreaking decision, Do we keep our doors open and risk our lives, or do we shut down the business we have worked so hard to build because I don’t serve Halal food. No family should ever have to choose between their livelihood and their safety. No one should have to live in fear in their own place of work. I am angry. I am heartbroken. I am frightened for my family’s safety. I am calling on the @metpoliceuk to take these threats seriously, investigate tonight’s attack thoroughly, and ensure that my family is protected. Please share this post. Let our voices be heard. We should not have to wait for someone to lose their life before our safety is taken seriously. Enough IS Enough. #Justice

The Kalash are a small, ancient indigenous Indo-Aryan people who live in three remote mountain valleys of Chitral in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan: Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir... 🇵🇰 A famous story says the Kalash are the direct descendants of soldiers from the army of Alexander the Great, who marched through the region in 4th Century BC. Modern DNA studies show the Kalash are an ancient, distinct Indo-Aryan population that lived in mountain isolation for thousands of years, rather than carrying significant recent Greek genetic markers. . . . Deep in the mountains of northern Pakistan, there are women whose clothing tells the story of a culture unlike any other in the country. They are the Kalash women, living in three valleys of the Hindu Kush, where wooden villages cling to steep hillsides and traditions have survived generations of change. Their appearance is extraordinary. Against black dresses, brilliant bands of red, yellow, green, and orange embroidery create dazzling patterns. Their headdresses are decorated with cowrie shells, colorful stitching, and intricate ornaments. Layers of beads fall across their chests, each piece contributing to a distinctive cultural identity. But these garments are more than beautiful clothing. For generations, Kalash women have helped preserve a religious and cultural heritage that differs sharply from that of the predominantly Muslim country surrounding them. Their traditional religion includes ceremonies connected to the seasons, agricultural life, and the natural world. During festivals, women gather with men to sing and dance, wearing clothing that transforms the mountain villages into extraordinary displays of color. Their traditions have never remained entirely unchanged. Heavy woolen dresses once common in the valleys have increasingly given way to lighter fabrics, while embroidery and decorative styles have evolved. Younger women navigate a world shaped by education, tourism, technology, and pressures from outside their communities. Today, the Kalash number only a few thousand people. Their language, religion, and distinctive customs remain vulnerable as their society changes. Yet in the valleys of Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir, women continue to wear the elaborate headdresses and embroidered garments that have made Kalash culture instantly recognizable. Each dress is part of a living tradition, still being made, worn, and changed by the women themselves. #archaeohistories

Sacha Baron Cohen on suspicion that the calls for a boycott of his new film, 'Ali G: Who Iz I?,' are tied to his past support of Israel: "Well, I haven’t said anything about Israel. I think people are being portrayed as things that they are not on social media and it’s problematic. We are in a world where people can’t distinguish between facts and lies, and that’s something that I’ve spent a lot of the last few years trying to fix. For example, I co-founded a group called Stop Hate for Profit with the NAACP and Color of Change and the ADL and certain other civil rights groups to stop the misinformation and incitement of racism on social media. So, I’m not surprised that prominent Jews are being targeted. I knew that this was going to happen. The level of organization is surprising, but this is a trend of Jews being portrayed in certain ways and trying to be silenced." bit.ly/4BpPgkz
