I mean, here you go, here's the map of birthrates by county in 2024. The region of the US with: - Infinite groundwater - Infinite surface water - Excellent precipitation - Hardwood forest - Mild summers - No hurricane or wildfire risk - Sufficient arable soil No babies. Dying places. The places with the absolute best suite of ecological resources for ultra-long-term survival are... emptying out, while high-fertility families are packing into places with all kinds of problems such as chronic drought, lethal heat, wild hogs, no forests, hurricanes, wildfire risk, social problems, etc. Are there some exceptions in the Great-Lakes-Northeast-Appalachian zone, birthrate-wise? Yes, they are counties with a lot of Amish and Mennonites or a lot of Haredi Jews. One almost wonders if the spectacularly poor governance of the rural Northeast has been some kind of a deliberate ploy on the part of elites, who might be aiming to clear out the most choice land for ultra-long-range survival, so as to establish fiefdoms here... and to force rebellious high-TFR families into zones with unfavorable habitability over time... I'm not saying this is happening, but man it'd be a great evil plan if I were an ultra-rich elite...
It's interesting because on a long enough timescale, entropy will claim the relatively fragile techno-industrial civilization that makes the South habitable via A/C. While Northerners can grow their own heat without any high tech, you can't grow your own A/C. This inverts basic ecological realities regarding habitability. Notice the Amish don't congregate very far South; once you take technology out of the picture, the South is a miserable, difficult place -- far more miserable than Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Frankly it drives me nuts, because the region with the best objective prospects for overall habitability -- excellent soil, hardwood forest, limitless groundwater, surface water, and high rainfall, low wildfire risk, plenty of game -- is the place that has no vitality, it is dying, there are no children here, there is no future is most of the rural North. This is because everybody is moving down to the synthetic 'A/C World'. People are not rational. If they were, they would settle in places that have taken entropy into account, and that are well-positioned for a failure of the techno-industrial system -- and they'd live there, buying timberland and having many children. This is the most sensible thing you could do. Instead: they buy condos in the South where a single power outage can kill, hurricanes flood, there are wild boars and weird hot-weather pathogens and so on. And if you live in the sensible climate of the North and have a family, the absence of families here almost forces your hand; you find yourself drawn southward as if by magnetism, because there is life there -- smack dab in a climate that is ONLY habitable because of the supply chain that produces industrial refrigerant. It makes short-term fatherly concerns conflict with long-term fatherly concerns, and any sensible Yankee father is embittered that he's stuck choosing between the barren depopulation of the North or the tenuous techno-fragility of the South.

🚨NEWS: The Islamist organisation 5 Pillars has reported John Cleese to the Prevent Programme after John made factual, accurate and valid statements about Islam John's statements on Islam: “To criticise a culture whose holy book advocates the killing of all the people they disagree with...is not racist. It’s culturalist.” “traditional British values are under attack from Muslim belief systems, especially the Koranic demands to kill ‘infidels’.” “I personally prefer a culture that does not approve of Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage and Killing Infidels.” “Another religious diktat from the Pro-Paedophila Propaganda Department.” 5 Pillars are a vile organisation who should not exist in the UK We value freedom of speech and expression especially when it comes to criticising ideologies or religions Stand with @JohnCleese !

TODAY WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE IN THE STOCK MARKET. Here’s everything you need to know: 1. Stocks sold off as the 10-year yield jumped back above 5% and oil reversed higher. 2. A hot September business activity print hit a five year high and juiced rate hike odds for October. 3. The 10-year Treasury yield climbed to about 5.08%, a 19-year high, and 30-year mortgages hit 7.12%. 4. Oil popped almost 4% after Iran’s president said Tehran would never surrender, a day after Trump’s UN threat. 5. $GOOGL fell about 3.8% and $AMZN dropped about 2.2% as mega cap tech gave back Monday’s melt up. 6. $EXPE and $ABNB both slid more than 7% as travel names got hit by higher rates. 7. Cybersecurity bucked the tape, with $CRWD and $PANW both up about 5% on AI safety spend hopes. 8. Energy was the only S&P sector in the green. Gold sold off as yields ripped. 9. Xi is heading to Washington, but the tape cared more about yields and crude than summit chatter. 10. The S&P 500 fell 0.8%, the Dow dropped 0.7%, and the Nasdaq slid 1.1%. And that’s just ONE trading day. Are you ready for tomorrow?

Yeah, nothing wrong with the 10Y being "barely above" levels last seen after the US printed $4 trillion in stimulus and had 6%+ inflation. Carry on, business as usual here.

The Atlantic just made it to September 21 without a hurricane. Last time that happened? 1914. Fay almost ruined it last night. It hit 70 mph. Hurricane strength is 74. Now it’s falling apart, and nothing else is expected for at least a week.

Shocking stat of the day: The Breakwave Tanker Shipping ETF, $BWET, is up +5,820% over the last 12 months. This ETF reflects futures linked to the cost of transporting crude oil from the Middle East and West Africa to China and other destinations, making it highly sensitive to disruptions in global oil shipping. In 2026 alone, $BWET is up +4,556%, leaving it the world’s best-performing ETF this year. The surge reflects skyrocketing tanker shipping costs amid disruptions to global oil transportation caused by the Iran War. We are seeing an unprecedented global energy shock.
