Writing tests are great. But keep in mind it takes HOURS for a writer to onboard, especially for a SaaS company. We're diving into everything so we can produce content at a high-level. That includes: -Demoing software -Reading the style guide -Studying the brand’s voice and messaging -Learning who the buyers are and what they care about -Understanding how the product solves their problems -Figuring out what makes it different from competitors -Reading customer stories and product documentation -Reviewing existing content to understand expectations -Learning the industry’s terminology and nuances -Watching customer interviews and listening to sales calls -Connecting all of that to the assignment before we write a single word So, if you can, go off of past writing samples. Ask writers about their process and the thinking behind their work. If you do need a writing test, always pay for it and keep the scope reasonable. And give writers the context and resources they need to succeed.

If you let money define your values, you will be left with nothing in the end.

When we try and use guilt or pride to teach children goodness ("You're better than that/Do better"-Appeal to Pride, "You better not lie or else"--guilt), we are actually drawing them farther away.

Eric Cantona for the Oscar.
Why would they bring him on 😭😭 #mufc

people focus on trends so much on social media which is fine but the reality is most people's feeds aren't chronological, people are served content from weeks and sometimes months ago... you need to be creating content that can show up anywhere and any time

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Let me get this straight... OpenAl was founded as a nonprofit. Open source. For everyone. "To benefit humanity." Then he raised billions of dollars. Then he closed the source code. Then he converted to for-profit. Then he scraped the entire internet without asking anyone. Then he used YOUR writing YOUR art YOUR code to train his models. Now he's on stage saying you'll pay HIM to access intelligence. Just like a water meter. He stole all of your data. He built the product with your work. And now he's going to bill you to use it... Corporate greed has reached an all time high, and they're not even hiding it anymore...
Open AI CEO, Sam Altman: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.”

Narrative sharetiv! Why owned media is vital in the internet age.
Gaming the public record for AI A new front has opened in reputation management: engineering the public record so that AI systems will pick it up and incorporate it into their answers. The Guardian has reported on a purported but fake US think tank that published 124 policy-style reports containing more than half a million words on a website in just nine days as part of an Israeli government-funded AI influence scheme. The operation was structured to put apparently authoritative material into the information environment and influence the answers LLM chatbots provide to the public. My point here is not political or specific to Israel. This looks much more like an example of a technique that governments, companies, advocacy groups and other interested actors are likely to use increasingly as AI systems become more important intermediaries of public information. Seeding propaganda online is not new: Wikipedia has long faced attempts by companies, political actors and paid editors to influence entries or manufacture supporting sources. The difference today is that generative AI constructs a fresh answer on demand from a much larger and less visible body of material. Ethics are important here. There is nothing inherently wrong with trying to influence what AI systems find through accurate and attributable material, legitimate earned coverage, corrections, authoritative owned information and genuine third-party validation. Manipulation begins when the method depends on concealed sponsorship, fabricated independence, synthetic authority, deceptive amplification, false identities or material designed to masquerade as something it is not. For public relations, the implication is significant. Brands need to monitor not only what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other systems are saying about them, but also which sources are shaping those answers and whether new material is being deliberately seeded for machine retrieval. A sudden change in an AI-generated account may reflect engineering or manipulation of the public record rather than any corresponding change in a subject's underlying reputation. Some of this overlaps with generative engine optimization, or GEO, but the operation described by The Guardian goes further. GEO generally seeks to improve the visibility and retrieval of existing content, while the pro-Israel project involved deliberately creating apparently "independent" evidence intended to shape the public record from which AI systems synthesize their answers. This is the latest example of the emerging reputation equation: Programmed image + earned reputation + engineered/manipulated public evidence → algorithmic synthesis → computed representation = perception formed That is what makes the case important. The intervention happens upstream of the AI. The actors are not directly changing the LLMs' answers; they are trying to alter the evidentiary inputs from which the model constructs that answer.

The “AI-will-replace-PR” hype is backwards. AI is actually tilting the playing field further toward experienced pros. Anyone who thought a ChatGPT subscription was a good PR strategy is finding this out the hard way. Three dangerous assumptions people make about AI: Assumption 1: “AI can write our pitches.” It can write a pitch. It cannot write a pitch a journalist will actually use. Unless you're Apple or Nike, announcements aren't news, but AI doesn't know that. It produces confident-looking promotional garbage that reporters delete on sight. Assumption 2: “Domain expertise can be uploaded.” Feeding a chatbot every internal document you have doesn't teach it what a journalist will actually cover. The story is never your product update. It's the news hook or the trend, and your company has an expert who can speak to it. Recognizing which angle a reporter will bite on, and which one they'll delete without a reply, comes from judgment, not a database. Assumption 3: “AI can evaluate its own output.” This is the snake eating its own tail. The instinct to spot red flags, or fancy words devoid of meaning, can only be earned through failure. I've watched enough of my own pitches crash and burn to catch problems a PR bot never will. The reality of AI in PR is that a seasoned pro using AI can develop strategies in hours that used to take weeks. But someone without PR experience using the same tool, ships work that lands nowhere. My advice is to stop worrying that AI is going to replace you. Instead, spend your mental energy on your critical judgment. …and let AI compound it.

End of an era. Tim Cook stepped down as Apple CEO. Today John Ternus takes over. Here's the pattern nobody is talking about. Apple doesn't pick CEOs. It picks weapons for the next war. Late 1990s. Apple was dying. It brought back Steve Jobs. A product visionary who saved the company by building things people didn't know they needed. Apple had the best products but needed global scale. It picked Tim Cook. An operations guy who turned it into a $5 trillion supply chain machine. $350 billion to $5 trillion on his watch. First company to cross $1T, $2T, $3T. Apple has the best devices on earth and the weakest AI narrative in big tech. So it picked an engineer. John Ternus. 25 years at Apple. He led the shift to Apple Silicon. Killed Intel. Shipped the M1. Hardware lead on every iPhone, Mac, iPad, and Vision Pro of the last decade. The same week he becomes CEO, OpenAI and Anthropic are buying tens of thousands of his Mac minis to train AI agents. Apple hardware became critical AI infrastructure without Apple building a single AI model. The AI war won't be won by chatbots. It'll be won on the chips AI runs on. Ternus built those chips. Tim Cook's last words as CEO: "My title changes tomorrow, but the love I have for the Apple community never will." The hardest shoes in tech were handed to the quietest engineer in the room.
Sending lots of love to the Apple community on my last day as CEO. My title changes tomorrow, but the love I have for the Apple community never will. Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration. My gratitude is endless, and I’m excited for the next chapter!

"AI models are terrible for learning." Andrew Ng, AI researcher and co-founder of Google Brain and Coursera, says AI boosts output while weakening long-term retention. The real challenge is using AI to amplify thinking without outsourcing the thinking itself. Open intelligence only creates progress if humans keep building judgment and context.

Social media was one of the biggest scams ever sold. A perfectly happy woman can scroll Instagram and suddenly convince herself she’s living the wrong life. She sees influencers traveling the world, wearing designer clothes, carrying $10,000 handbags and stepping onto private jets. Suddenly her stable marriage feels boring. Her husband feels “cheap.” Her normal life feels like she settled. Then she starts picking apart everything he does. “He doesn’t take me anywhere.” “He doesn’t spoil me.” “He’s not ambitious enough.” “He’s not like those men.” Eventually, she starts wondering if she married the wrong man. But here’s what she forgets: She’s comparing her real life to someone else’s carefully manufactured highlight reel. The vacations are curated. The relationships are curated. The bodies are edited. The homes are staged. The lifestyles are sponsored by men who rent these “influencers” aka escorts strategically presented for attention. You are not watching reality. You are watching a performance designed to keep you watching. And comparison is the business model. Because a woman who is content with what she has is harder to sell to. But make her feel inadequate? Now she needs the new handbag. The new body. The new vacation. The new house. The new lifestyle. And eventually, maybe even a new husband. They don't need to convince you that your life is terrible. They only need to convince you that someone else’s life is better. Then you’ll do the rest. You’ll create the dissatisfaction yourself. The algorithm profits from your insecurity, your comparison and your constant need for validation from strangers. Stop comparing your real marriage to someone else's curated feed. Be grateful for what you’ve built. And before you let strangers on the internet convince you that your husband isn't enough, remember who actually lives that life with you.

"but u can't spend years selling fear and then act confused when people stop trusting u" ☝️State of almost every organised institution run by man. #humanity
MICROSOFT CEO SAYS AI COMPANIES MADE PEOPLE STOP TRUSTING THEM satya nadella on why people stopped trusting the ai industry: "Why would anyone want you to be successful? I mean, I don't want you to be successful." he's talking about ai leaders telling people white collar jobs are going away, then turning around and saying how excited they are to build the thing and yea, i think the industry walked straight into this one if the first thing normal people hear about ai is that it may take their job, of course they wont care how impressive the next model is doesn't mean the tech is bad or that every job disappears. but u can't spend years selling fear and then act confused when people stop trusting u you can't sell people the future by making them feel like there's no place for them in it

How to restore your reputation as a humanitarian after being responsible for taking innumerable lives? Start a narrative where you are warning the world about something that will be catastrophic if measures aren't taken. Stake your reputation on it. Games the wicked rich play.

AI will do to minds what the decline in manual labor did to bodies. The privileged few will keep exercising their minds with literature, art and science, just like they kept exercising their bodies despite escalators, elevators and desk work. The many will suffer something akin to the obesity crisis but for the mind.
