At least 64 people have died of HIV/AIDS-related illnesses in Kabale District in the last financial year, alarming new data from the Kabale District Health Office reveals.
The data further shows that Southern Division of Kabale Municipality leads the prevalence rate with 194 cases, followed by Central Division with 176 cases and Northern Division.
According to the report, the district recorded between 30 to 70 new HIV infections every month in the FY 2024/2025.
Kabale District Health Educator, Alfred Besigensi, attributed the rising infections to poverty, alcohol and substance abuse, stigma and discrimination, as well as high-risk behavior among key and priority populations.

The Omukama of Tooro Kingdom, His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has today reappointed Musuuga Mujwera Charles Kamurasi Kayondo Akiiki as the Tooro Kingdom’s Musuuga (Head of Babiito Royal Clan), with Kato Benard Rwakatale as his deputy and Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire serving as the interim Prime Minister (Muhikirwa). The King of Tooro, His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has today launched the national Measles-Rubella immunisation campaign at Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal City. Speaking during the launch, the King emphasised the importance of protecting children against preventable diseases, noting that the Kingdom needs healthy people and children to support its development. He called upon parents and guardians with children aged between nine months and five years to take them to designated health facilities and immunisation centres to receive the Measles-Rubella vaccine.
