Right now, Republicans in Congress are trying to push through a bill that would put millions of Americans at risk of losing their health care.
They want to cut federal funding for Medicaid, take away tax credits that help more people afford coverage, and raise costs for working class families.

Today would be a great day to ban members of Congress and their families from trading stocks, don't you think?

Obama: Imagine if I had done any of this. Imagine if I had pulled Fox News’ credentials from the White House press corps. Imagine if I had said to law firms that were representing parties that were upset with policies my administration had initiated, that you will not be allowed into government buildings. We will punish you economically for dissenting from the Affordable Care Act or the Iran deal. We will ferret out students who protest against my policies.
It’s unimaginable that the same parties that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like that from me, or a whole bunch of my predecessors.

Taking phones off the internet boosts mental health.
People were randomly assigned to block mobile internet for 2 weeks. They socialized, exercised, and read more—and became happier, less depressed & anxious, and more focused.
Being unglued from devices is good for well-being.

The people who think we can lower the deficit while giving tax cuts to corporations and the ultra-wealthy—and eliminating income taxes for anyone making under $150K—are the same ones who believe you can lose weight on an all-donut diet, while never leaving bed and drinking a case of beer at night.
At some point, reality catches up… but by then, they’re too blacked out to notice.

Online surveys require responses from real people. But as more participants use artificial intelligence to craft their responses, Assistant Professor Janet Xu finds research data could suffer. #AI stanford.io/3ZPKE6g

Look at how physicians diagnose more children with ADHD on Halloween (the red line in the middle of the figure).
The authors hypothesize that docs are more likely to diagnose kids on this day simply because kids are excited for Halloween.
Fascinating!

We learn more from reading on paper than on screens.
54 studies, 171k people: we process print more deeply than digital content—as long as it's informational rather than purely narrative.
The paper advantage holds across ages and has grown over time. Long live physical books.

Can you guess what happens when you provide temporary financial assistance to those at risk of homelessness?
...
...
You *massively* reduce the chances that those people experience homelessness.
The benefits to homelessness prevention exceed the costs.

Has the U.S. economy, historically, been better under Republican presidents or Democratic presidents?
A Republican financial analyst decided to find out.
His name? Bart Starr, Jr. (Yes, the son of THAT Bart Starr.)

Don't let what you see on social media skew your view of humanity.
Most bad behavior is due to a few bad apples:
• Just 3% of active users are toxic, but they generate 33% of online content
• 1% of communities launch 74% of conflict
• 0.1% of users spread 80% of fake news
