Wicklow GAA extends its deepest and most sincere condolences to our Senior Football Manager, Oisín McConville, and the extended McConville family on the sad passing of his mother, Margaret. A central figure in her family and a lifelong, revered supporter of Crossmaglen Rangers and Armagh GAA, Margaret’s love for the game and dedication to her family were known to all who met her. The officers, staff, players, and gaels of Coiste Chontae Chill Mhantáin hold Oisín, his family, and their wide circle of friends in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal.

On behalf of the Wicklow County Board, players, management, and GAA supporters across the Garden County, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mayo GAA on winning the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. To the Mayo County Board, the management team, the players, and the extraordinary Mayo supporters worldwide, your perseverance, belief, and unwavering passion over the last 75 years have been nothing short of inspiring to the entire GAA community. To stand on the summit of Irish sport after 11 final heartbreaks is a masterclass in resilience. You have proven that no matter how long or tough the road, dedication and heart will always prevail. We also want to pass on a sincere word of thanks. When we played the Tailteann Final in Croke Park two weeks ago just before your semi final, your supporters stepped up and joined as Wicklow’s 16th man and cheered us on every step of the way, a gesture of true GAA sportsmanship that we won't forget. A special word to our own County Treasurer, Larry Howard, a proud Mayo man through and through. God only knows when we will actually see him back in Wicklow again, but we know he’ll be celebrating every second of it! Enjoy bringing the Sam Maguire home to the West. Comhghairdeas ó chroí libh go léir! 🟢🔴 #officialwicklowgaa #wearewicklow #36C1C Photo: GAA @mayogaa

#ThrowbackThursday 🪵🪓 For this week's #TBT, we are taking a trip back to 1962 for a truly unique piece of Wicklow GAA history! Pictured here is the Forestry College Senior Hurling Champions team of 1962. The Story Behind the Photo This wasn’t your typical club team. Back then, the State Forestry Training College was based at Shelton Abbey in Arklow. Young men from all over Ireland came to study there. Because they had a high concentration of athletic students from traditional hurling strongholds like Tipperary, Cork, Limerick, and Waterford, they pooled their talent, entered the Wicklow championship, and went all the way to claim the 1962 Senior Hurling title! It is essentially an "All-Ireland select" team playing under the Wicklow banner, complete with legendary Kerry football icon Tom Prendergast (back row), who won All-Irelands with the Kingdom but picked up a Wicklow hurling medal during his college days here! The Lineup: Back Row (L to R): Murt Duggan (Laois), Dermot O'Connor (Kerry), Mossy Walsh (Cork), P. O'Brien (Galway), G. Hipwell (Kildare), Tom Prendergast (Kerry), F. Hogan (Tipperary), Liam O'Connor (Kerry), S. Casey (Cork), Mick Burke (Tipperary), P. Quinlan (Tipperary). Front Row (L to R): Sean Twomey (Cork), Paddy McAuliffe (Limerick), Peter O'Dwyer (Tipperary), Derry O'Donovan (Cork), George Harley (Waterford), Bill Walsh (Waterford), Michael Fogarty (Tipperary), Michael McNamara (LimerickGAA), Richard Delahunty (Tipperary). Missing from Photo: Leo Collins (Tipperary), Sean Grahan (Westmeath), P.J. O'Donoghue (Tipp). Do you recognise any family members, neighbours, or legends of the game in this photo? Let us know in the comments, and feel free to tag anyone with connections to this historic team! 👇 Photo File: Jimmy Dunne #WicklowGAA #GAA #Throwback #GaelicGames #Hurling #History #SheltonAbbey #officialwicklowgaa #36C1C #WeAreWicklow
