Earlier this summer, when Trump called out 529 hospitals for failing to abide by federal price transparency laws, 42 of those hospitals were in the state of Texas - more than any other state. Clearly, in a state like Texas, which has strong legislation in place to hold hospitals accountable to the public’s trust, enforcement is severely lacking. Peter Pitts from the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest has a new report explaining the situation. @tedcruz @JohnCornyn cmpi.org/in-the-news/troubli… – at Williamsburg, VA

Many large hospital systems are organized as non-profits and rake in billions of taxpayer dollars under the guise of helping vulnerable patients. Yet, "many increasingly resemble sophisticated commercial enterprises" while "providing levels of charity care that often fall well below the value of the public subsidies they receive." It's time for that to change. cmpi.org/in-the-news/troubli…

Texas has long positioned itself as a national leader in healthcare innovation, biomedical research, and medical education. Applying the same commitment to transparency, accountability, and measurable public benefit would reinforce that leadership while ensuring that tax-exempt hospitals fulfill both the letter and the spirit of their charitable missions. cmpi.org/in-the-news/troubli…

Seniors have the most to lose when medical innovation slows. Congress should consider how the Medication Affordability and Patent Integrity Act and Biosimilar Red Tape Elimination Act will undermine future treatments and cures for American seniors.
For far too long, brand name drug manufacturers have gamed the system to block competition, extend monopolies and keep prescription drug prices HIGH at the expense of patients, taxpayers and the U.S. health care system. Get the facts:

Medicare Advantage works best when insurers compete on value for seniors. Strong oversight is essential to prevent risk-score inflation and protect the program's integrity and taxpayers.

“When CMS forces these products into a bidding war, the result will not be smarter spending. It will be lower-quality products, reduced access, and unnecessary suffering.” Read more from Jim Martin @60PlusAssoc , in @WashTimes on competitive bidding’s flaws: washingtontimes.com/news/202…

Democrats are sick.
Was shutdown worth it? Hickenlooper: “Yeah, I think so.… I hate it, but, yeah, it was worth it. Definitely. We got people to pay attention to the fact that this is a traumatic, in many cases, life or death situation all over this country.” Reed agrees

The Schumer Shutdown is now the longest in U.S. history. Democrats are only keeping the government closed because they want to turn out their radicals for Election Day. Today, Republicans will vote for the 14th time to open the government for the American people.
