Meron ding pamilya na namatayan sa probinsya na mas nauna sa tatay ko pero mas naunang ilibing yung tatay ko kasi inextend nila yung lamay para lang daw may pambayad sila sa utang nila sa hospital na more than 200K. Umaasa sila na yung makukuha nilang “Tong” (the house cut or funeral pool donation taken from the card games) at condolence money ay pandagdag para mabayaran yung hospital expenses pero magastos pa rin pag may lamay kasi papakainin mo yung mga taong pupunta at yung mga naglalaro. The government/DSWD offers funeral assistance, but it’s not enough to cover all funeral expenses and you need to wait after 8-11 months to get the money. Kawawa yung mga pamilyang walang-wala talaga at umaasa lang dun at sa condolence money/bereavement money.

The cost of living isn't cheap. Neither is the cost of dying. My dad passed away recently and this is the total that I have on my tracker, but some expenses went unaccounted for during the final days of my father's wake because I got busy. I was searching for some PH laws or bills protecting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and saw Senate Bill No. 1822 sponsored by Senator Risa Hontiveros. It was unanimously approved by the Senate on third and final reading on March 9, 2026. Its core provisions include early screening, inclusive education, and employment while enforcing an anti-discrimination clause across healthcare, work, and social protection. I hope this bill passes into law so that individuals with ASD, like Josh Aquino, will be better protected.

I don’t really know the exact reason why they dropped the other 3 articles (Confidential Funds, Bribery and Procurement, Grave Threats and Inciting Sedition) and just retained one (Unexplained Wealth), but I hope this is a wise move from the prosecution. I think this is their intention when Atty. Lorna Kapunan said that Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial will end before Christmas that’s why they want to focus on unexplained wealth.

They expected Leni to decline the meeting with the Israeli ambassador, yet they were willing to extend grace to someone who attended a party and posed for a picture with the wife of a dictator. It’s the same double standard they showed when they extended grace to Dedees, claiming they were victims of disinformation, but refused to show the same understanding toward some opposition leaders and Kakampinks.
If you’re not calling out all the politicians who met with the Israeli ambassador, and you’re also not calling out someone from your own group who previously had a picture taken with the wife of a dictator, isn’t that selective outrage rather than genuine activism? Calling out Leni alone comes across as targeted criticism and a clear double standard.
Even in death, the government makes you jump through hoops.
We recently lost my dad and tried to avail of DSWD’s funeral assistance, only to face endless paperwork, multiple offices, and an 8-11 month wait. Why must grieving families fight bureaucracy just to get the assistance they need? Simplify the process. Expedite the aid. Let people grieve in peace.
