“Earl Campbell – I was unlucky to have to play against him two times a year in the division as it is. But we had to play him three times a year those two years. That was a lot of Earl Campbell.
Well, in the first game, there was a minute left to go. They ran a toss to Campbell on the other wide and I just sort of jogged figuring someone else would make the play. Well, he reverses field and comes my direction and slams into me, He shattered the facemask off of my helmet. I could have lost an eye. I said to Earl as we were both on the ground, “It’s 34-5 Earl!”He just looked at me and said “I go one-hundred miles an hour every play. I don’t care what the score is.” We were one minute away from the Super Bowl. I just gathered the pieces of my helmet and let my backup fill in for the rest of the game.”
They say a bass will eat just about anything that fits in its mouth... apparently, that includes golf balls.
Watch as Charl Schwartzel finds that out first-hand at LIV Golf New York, when his tee shot on the par-3 7th spun off the green and rolled straight into the pond.
The second the ball hit the water, a largemouth bass came flying out and immediately inhaled it.
And yes, there’s a rule for this. Since the ball was already in the penalty area, Schwartzel took a drop, a one-stroke penalty and walked away with a bogey.

At 100 years old, WWII veteran Bernie Smoot still drives his convertible Ford Mustang to play golf five days a week, shoots in the low 80s and shares wisdom from 74 years in the game: “You live to play golf. But to reach my age, you play golf to live.”
To celebrate Bernie — who landed at Omaha Beach just months after graduating high school — his PGA Coach and friend Jeff Maynor organized a tournament in his honor at the University of Maryland Golf Course, where Bernie plays five days a week.
Maynor, the course’s PGA Director of Golf, has run a @PGAHOPE program there for Veterans since 2019, which Bernie loves to support. The tournament for Bernie was a chance for those Veterans to thank him and celebrate his love for the game.
