CJF is deeply disappointed and alarmed to learn that the Palestinian flag-raising at City Hall will proceed and now, that the City has intentionally moved the event to November 15, the date of the Palestinian Declaration of Independence, in order to qualify it under City policy.
Shana Tovah! As the shofar sounds, may it awaken within us the desire for strength and growth. Wishing you a sweet year ahead in 5785! May peace embrace the homes of Jewish people everywhere, and may those held hostage be reunited with their loved ones soon.
We are grateful for the support of allies like the Hon. @MichelleRempel, MP for Calgary Nose Hill, who spoke yesterday in Parliament at an emergency debate, supporting Israel and its right to defend itself. bit.ly/hon-mrg-supports-isra…

Horrified by Tehran’s latest assault against innocent Israeli civilians with missile barrages and terrorist attacks.
Millions of civilians are forced to shelter from the attacks.
Conservatives support Israel’s right to defend itself and defeat the terrorists.
Thank you MP Rempel Garner for your always strong words and truly demonstrating moral leadership.
Thank you so much for your support @Calgarysportz . Your strong voice is needed & appreciated in helping stand up to hate.

I stand in solidarity with the Calgary Jewish community. More must be done to ensure laws are enforced to keep them safe.

I condemn the bomb threats made today against Calgary and Canadian Jewish institutions. I also condemn weak leadership that has failed to confront the rise of vile anti-Zionism and antisemitism. Never again is now.
Thank you @nenshi for your strong words on yet another challenging day for our community.
We are aware of an email that was circulated this morning to synagogues across Canada, including Calgary, making threats against the institution. We have been in touch with both @RCMPAlberta & @CalgaryPolice; there is no indication of any imminent danger to our community. [1/2]
Thank you @JewishEdmonton
As Jew hate perpetuates and continues to rise in our province & across Canada, we must be vocal for it to stop. Death threats and graffiti are clear evidence that steps must be taken. Any type of hate is not welcome in #yyc, #yeg & #Alberta. We stand with @Jewishcalgary.
Images of Jewish hate and open death threats to our community were on display this weekend near a synagogue and Jewish day school, in an attempt to intimidate as our community walked for Israel and against antisemitism. [1/3]
The inverted triangle is a well-known Hamas death threat used to glorify violence and coupled with the words "the flood is coming" – the Hamas-named Al Aqsa flood referring to October 7 – emphasizes the insidious intent. [2/3]
As 1000s gathered amongst the graffiti, Calgary's Jewish community & our allies showed we will not back down in the face of hate. Thank you @CalgaryPolice & @RCMPAlberta for ensuring that our community was able to gather safely in the face of these disturbing threats & Jew hate.
Sadly, we are not shocked that our collective community remains under attack. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Jewish Toronto as they navigate this latest act of intimidation against the community. @UJAFederation, we are with you in mind and spirit - Am Yisrael Chai!
This was a brazen and deliberate attempt to intimidate our community.
But we are strong and resilient. We will NEVER stop living publicly and proudly as Jews.
Throughout the day, UJA Community Security has taken the following actions in response:

Other allies have condemned this, incl. the US, UK, & Germany.
@JustinTrudeau, @melaniejoly where is Canada's voice?
Trying to establish moral equivalency between leaders of a terrorist org and leaders of a democratic country is outrageous.
Canada must stand with its allies.
We’re calling on the Government of 🇨🇦 to vigorously repudiate and distance itself from the ICC Prosecutor’s application to seek arrest warrants against Israeli leasers in relation to Israel’s current war of self-defense against Hamas in Gaza.

On Israel’s 76th Independence Day, under the shadow of war, I welcomed ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives from around the world.
For the security and integrity of every nation, we must stand together as champions of moderation, democracy and peace.
We must speak loudly and forcefully against the startling spike in antisemitism, which endangers all societies.
Most importantly, we must stand together as a family of nations and respond decisively to Hamas' despicable crimes against humanity, and do all we can to bring the hostages home now!
