Good journalism is always a balance between telling people what they want to hear and what they need to know. Mr. McKay’s contention is that decades of a hyperactive media market, and years of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, have thrown things out of whack. #BCM325
McKay hit on the solution while talking one night in January 2019 with Mr. Sirota, who was venting about the news media’s passive reaction to climate change, saying it was as though a meteor was headed for earth and no one seemed to get it. #BCM325
McKay said he tried five different ideas that would allow him to make a movie about the climate crisis, but nothing worked.

“How do you tell this story, the biggest story in 66 million years, without exaggeration, since the Chicxulub comet, bigger than the Black Plague, bigger than Krakatoa?” #BCM325
McKay said his first few drafts of the script were dramatic. He was inspired by the 2019 book The Uninhabited Earth, David Wallace-Wells' analysis of the climate crisis. McKay collaborated with journalist Sirota, who had the idea that a comet could be the metaphor #BCM325

There are a lot of mixed reviews when it comes to Don’t look up.‘Don't Look Up aims too high for its scattershot barbs to consistently land, but Adam McKay's star-studded satire hits its target of collective denial square on.’ #BCM325
The media has the potential to have a positive or negative effect on society. In the beginning of the film the scientists are thrust into the public eye – who refuse to believe the impending doom they are being warned about. #BCM325

The representational broadcast media paradigm is depicted in #dontlookup as the one-to-many model of the talk show is interrupted and skewed by the many-to-many decentralised model of memes on the internet #bcm325

"This [climate change] is the biggest story in human history, and arguably the biggest threat since the Chicxulub comet 66 million years ago," McKay said, "The urgency and the threat is absolutely accurate." #BCM325
