My 8 yr old started a conversation with me recently: 8 yr old: Mummy, why is everything you write about, about death? Me: Well I think it’s something that people are scared talking about 8 yr old: But that’s like being scared of sunset, there is nothing you can do about it…
Have you had a conversation about death, dying or grief recently? How was it? Answers in a tweet! Let’s talk about #SmallThingsBigDifference & #TheValueOfDeath with a view to improving our experiences of life and death.

OTs help you to help yourself. It's not their job to 'train' you. They teach you how you can own your own body, how to listen to it, how to learn from it, how to work it so that it can work.
I'm not sure why #OccupationalTherapy is trending today but it reminds me that it was wonderful occupational therapists working with physiotherapists and nurses at St Pancras Rehabilitation Hospital who taught me to stand up and walk, all done with care, kindness and great skill

Told today that it is NHS policy not to tell colleagues if we test +ve for COVID, and are advised to come in and work as normal if well enough. We have been discouraged from testing at all. Don't staff and pts have a right to know and be protected? 😢 #covid #longcovid

Just a heads up, the term “children with neurodiversity” doesn’t make sense. It would be better phrased “neurodivergent children”. Neurodiverse can only refer to a group, an individual is neurodivergent. +identity first language is generally preferred

Not surprising findings here. Very aware of the importance and value added by OT within an acute setting, working in an integrated physiotherapy and occupational therapy department @JPUHTherapies 💚💙
⭐️ 'An independent study published in Medical Care Research and Review found that "#OccupationalTherapy is the only spending category where additional spending has a statistically significant association with lower readmission rates" for... heart failure, pneumonia and acute MCI'

Thanks so much to @OT_UEA for having me present at their research symposium today. You made me feel very welcome and great to meet such a lovely bunch of soon-to-be OTs! Not long to go now :) @C_T_K_Chandler @UEA_Health #ResearchWithoutRealising

A lot of updates for all to be aware of but especially acute teams: ➡️patients should receive 3h of functional rehabilitation a day post-stroke if they have motor goals ➡️patients should have access to gym, kitchen, bathroom spaces for functional assessments and practise
The new 2023 National Stroke Guidelines have just been released! There are a wide range of specialities covered not forgetting the fantastic contribution by OT's! Check out here: strokeguideline.org

Latest #MATADOC research: validation with Coma Recovery Scale (CRS-R). Sat April 1 at the @I_B_I_A DoC Abstract Session. #MATADOC is good companion to CRS-R & identifies auditory responsiveness earlier which could be prognostic. @BeckyocMT presenting.

In case anyone was wondering...after a long uphill battle this patient finally went home today. Tears on both sides as they went 💚
I've made myself unpopular with some staff this week by suggesting a patient should receive further rehab in hospital to help them return home rather than be moved into long term care. I was told I was contributing to the nhs crisis by doing this 😥

We can do better than setting professions at war with each other while the enemies of the NHS warm their hands on the conflagration. I'd urge all my nursing colleagues not to support a separate pay spine. I imagine all the other professional bodies will baulk.

Em @theRCOT @unisontheunion did you think we wouldn’t notice this??? Is this divide and conquer tactics? Are AHPs less worthy of review of our challenges and pay?
