Out of the newspaper biz after 45 years covering Raiders, 49ers, A's, Giants, colleges, high schools. Still an interested observer from the sideline.

Remember all the fuss about Tom Brady vaulting to top Fox analyst? No longer. Brady is really, really good.

Just the Bay Area?
Would not argue with you if you told me Bill King is the greatest sports broadcaster in Bay Area history.

Don't let anyone ever tell you the only thing that matters is winning the last game of the postseason. There are champagne celebrations after best-of-three wild card series. If winning last game was all that mattered, that wouldn't happen.

Travel stuff aside, it sure looked as if the 49ers were playing for something now while the Rams were easing into a 17-game schedule. Rams pretty much said "Uncle" in the fourth quarter. Another feather in Shanahan's cap at the expense of Sean McVay.

Best 49ers opener since blowing out the Raiders 44-14 at Candlestick in 1994 (the night Rice set TD record). Better than beating Pittsburgh 30-7 in 2023 because opponent was the Rams. Pretty damn impressive on all fronts.

Wish I'd written this line by @CamInman about 49ers coverage (that's not unusual, he has me thinking that way often) . . . "Please appreciate & follow the hard-working, unbiased reporters who cover the 49ers — rather than those who basically cover themselves covering the 49ers"

An actual reason to watch Giants and they yank tugboat after 25 pitches, two scoreless. They’re not only bad, they’re no fun at all

Didn't watch a single snap of exhibition football tonight. First time in 30-plus years covering NFL, 45 in the business. And I'm sure I didn't miss a thing. We'll see how retirement really feels in Week 1 . . .

Hundreds if not thousands of interactions with Mike Wagaman over the last 30 years included one thing — laughter. And I mean every time.

Happy that Roger Craig got to divulge his dementia condition on his own terms. Was pretty clear something wasn't right, but media -- which always revered Craig for the way he treated them -- kept its distance. Well done. Tons of respect for Craig.

Waiting for the first story linking the electrical substation at the practice facility to Kyle Shanahan's driving . . . I'm sure there's a `content creator' out there up to the task . . .

Finally made it to Cooperstown and the baseball Hall of Fame. I expected a lot. It delivered even more.

Had some PTSD yesterday watching Giants and Knicks comebacks, imagining ripping those initial posts apart on deadline for worthy rewrites.

Went better for the Giants than I thought. 5 2/3 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 12 Ks for Kyle Harrison . . . xitter.cf/Jerrymcd/status/206164…
At this rate, would anyone be surprised if Kyle Harrison comes out and puts up seven zeroes with 14 strikeouts against the Giants?

The sport of baseball is predicated on pitchers attempting to get hitters out. Any time a position player takes the mound and is throwing lob balls is an insult to the sport and any team that does it should be embarrassed and ashamed.
