“Black people are often photo-ready. Photo-eager,” Hanif Abdurraqib writes. “We’ve already got fly, we already believe ourselves to be fly: why shouldn’t someone want to take our photo?” In the work of the photographer Andre D. Wagner, the tender intimacy of Black life takes center stage. Some of Wagner’s images show moments of profound, quiet interpersonal intimacy. Others display raucous joy. “We don’t have to be told that we are fly, but it doesn’t hurt to get some confirmation, by way of a camera pointing in our direction,” Abdurraqib continues. See more of Wagner’s photographs: newyorker.com/culture/photo-…

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

I wrote my undergraduate honors thesis on this many moons ago—all 100+ pages of it. My research examined how, despite stimulating economic growth and expanding social welfare, New Deal programs also reinforced existing racial inequities, contributing to enduring disparities in wealth, education, and health outcomes that continue to persist well into the 21st century.
We are not going to bootstrap our way or marry our way into wealth. Yall dont understand the game been rigged since the new deal. White people got subsidized and they left black people out in the cold. And we are seeing the effects from it in the net worth update.

Racial solidarity. This is why I act like non-Black rappers don’t exist.
On his new collaboration with Kid Rock, Eminem raps: "He is my brother, not my political enemy/ B.O. to the B., we wrote this for those who believe/ In G.O. to the D, however you voted or lean/ Liberal and evangelical can agree/ It’s God first, home of the free." consequence.net/2026/10/kid-…

Curtis Flowers, a Black man from Mississippi who was tried six times for the same crime by the same prosecutor before ultimately being wrongfully convicted, has died. He was 56. Attorney Rob McDuff previously called Flowers' case "unprecedented in the history of the American legal system." cbsn.ws/4jOdVsq
