AMELIA EARHART SEARCH: Steve Harrigan reports on a new expedition aiming to solve one of the 20th century's greatest aviation mysteries. A team of researchers from Purdue University has traveled to the remote, uninhabited island of Nikumaroro to inspect a submerged object spotted via satellite imagery. Utilizing marine sonar and magnetometers, the team hopes to determine within days whether the site holds the remains of Amelia Earhart's 1937 plane, all while camping aboard their ship to avoid the island's massive coconut crabs.
One day during a detachment in Panama I was not on the flight schedule so I walked to the commissary. I the way I saw two ant colonies fighting. I stayed to watch for two hours.

Now we just have to ship that gas in US built, US flagged and US crude vessels.

We were really impressed with the entire BIW team when we visited there months ago. While they still had some backlog, they made real progress on working it down. As such, I'm confident that they can take on the additional effort that comes with a 2nd destroyer in the budget.
Today’s decision by the Department validates the capacity of Bath Iron Works and the hard work of its highly skilled 6,800 employees who build the best ships in the world.
I have advocated for a second destroyer to be included in this year’s budget, and I worked with the Administration during its careful review and repeated visits to BIW to verify the ability of the shipyard to construct another ship while continuing to complete its current workload.
This certification will help keep our Navy strong and support BIW as a steady source of good-paying Maine jobs. I will continue to work to ensure our shipbuilders have the resources to meet the Navy’s needs at a time when China is relentlessly expanding its fleet.
