I was about 10 years old and getting more serious about guitar. I asked my dad if I could dig through his tape and vinyl collection, I was on a mission to find something that grabbed me by the soul. Something different to hear with my new “musical ears.” I was searching for my niche. I found this white cassette. It was so worn out the ink had completely vanished. No track names. No side A. Total mystery. I popped it into my York stereo, and the first track blew my mind: Mr. Crowley. By pure chance, I had pulled Blizzard of Ozz from my dad’s collection. I was hooked. Then he told me about Black Sabbath. I borrowed Paranoid, and that’s when my real journey with guitar and music began. In one day, I discovered Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads, and Sabbath. This gave me my roots. Guitar changed my life. It kept me out of trouble, kept me grounded, challenged me, and gave me a way to express myself through the music I love, my way. Ozzy Osbourne gave me direction. His music filled my soul. His voice and lyrics lit a fire I didn’t know was there. It wasn’t just sound, it was power, pain, rebellion, and beauty. Ozzy wasn’t just a singer, he was a force. And Randy Rhoads… his playing wasn’t just fast or technical. It was emotional. Melodic. Haunting. I didn’t want to just play guitar anymore, I wanted to speak through it. From that day forward, I chased that feeling. Every riff, every solo was a conversation with my younger self, a reminder of why I picked up the guitar in the first place. It still is, and I continue to chase that feeing. It all started with a mystery tape and a spark of curiosity. That spark became the fire that still drives me today. I knew this day was coming. I’m not ready. This one hurts. I’ll forever be grateful for every note, every lyric, every album and performance the Prince of Darkness gave us. You affected my life. You influenced generations, and you always will.
