Kinder computer scientists at @Campfield_ELC met their newest robot friend… Botley 2.0! They learned the importance of sequence and how symbols can represent information.
PreK computer scientists at @HawthorneES learned about Rosa Parks and then used algorithms to make Colby the mouse act out her bus boycott. Future computer engineers in 3rd grade used Makey Makey hardware to control different software. #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS
5th grade future computer scientists programmed LED lights to show the apparent magnitude of stars in different constellations. Thanks @CatonsvilleES for letting me be a teaching partner this week! @CTE_BaltCoPS #bcps_csi @BCPSSci
Here’s the lesson I was talking about @GIS_Cromwell. They used @microbit_edu and @birdbraintech Hummingbird bit hardware and @MSMakeCode to build the program. Thanks for the planning help @PeggyKoenig!
OMG! Check out this LEGO bot that can solve a rubrics cube; made by a 14 year old. #TikTok tiktok.com/t/ZTRKhXX2P/

As schools are re-purchasing devices, a reminder that when it comes to learning, the quality of the device Ss use MATTERS. We also know that Chromebooks have a much shorten lifespan than other mobile devices. thejournal.com/articles/2021… pirg.org/edfund/resources/ch…
These kindergarten future coders at @Campfield_ELC were so excited to make their own mazes for Colby and Jack and then write an algorithm to get him to the cheese! They got lots of practice learning how to work in partners. #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS
Why were second graders at @CatonsvilleES stacking plastic cups? Because these future computer scientists were using symbols & sequences to write algorithms that their “robot” friends could execute successfully. I loved hearing them debug their code. #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS
Also at @SparksES_BCPS today, second grade future computer scientists looked for patterns and used loops to make their programs more efficient. One rockstar figured out an efficiency that was even better than the @codeorg goal of 10 blocks! #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS
3rd grade future computer scientists at @SparksES_BCPS are programming in partners and learning how to use Parallelism and Multiple Events to make their @scratch sprites move in their stories. #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS

It’s officially Unpub Eve.
Make sure you leave out milk and cookies for Blüdle!
So impressed by the hard work of future computer scientists on display at the @Team_MCES STEM Night. Robots made using @birdbraintech, mice programmed to navigate mazes, @Ozobot illustrating pollination & map navigation, and @makeymakey instruments! #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS
Loved seeing & hearing 2nd grade future computer scientists at @BCPSHES use @ScratchJr Message blocks to illustrate how computers encode & decode information. “The code is data” & “The computer is processing [the data].” I also got to see a chick hatch! #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS
So much great computer science happening at @Team_MCES! @birdbraintech with #microbit to design 🤖, using #Wixie to illustrate IPSO, writing to explain wireless communication, using @Ozobot to illustrate digital safety & educate peers on 🐝, +more! #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS

ALT A variety of posters with lines drawn on them as tracks for a robot to follow. Four of the posters show the track surrounded by students’ drawings of things found in a bee’s habitat. Four other posters have a track that moves a robot between descriptions of good and bad rules for digital safety.

ALT Three photos combined. One shows some computer science vocabulary posters hanging on a cabinet door. Another one shows computational thinking vocabulary words hanging on a bulletin board. The third shows a table covered with student engineering projects and bins of materials and projects below. The student projects are rudimentary sail cars.
1st graders at @ChadwickElem are using @ScratchJr to illustrate a story sequence. Today they typed text & illustrated the settings using clip art & paint features. Next time they will add a photo of a place in their school building & begin coding! #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS
Loved seeing Ss at @OliverBeachElem using barcodes to program @MeetEdison bots to follow a light, avoid obstacles, and play bumper cars! Overheard: “it didn’t avoid it because it’s clear and can’t see it.” Thanks @OBES_LIB for teaching #bcps_csi and Computational Thinking.
Check this out #BCPS_CSI friends! We need to investigate. :)
With the latest ScratchJr update, you can open your downloaded project files without leaving the app! 🥳 Check it out and let us know what you think.

So excited to finally visit @HoneygoElem and their new #bcps_csi program! Saw 1st 2nd and 3rd grade Ss using @ScratchJr to extend a story with algorithms, events, and parallelism. They practiced persistence, problem solving, and debugging!

MSET & @TeqProducts are hosting @Jennzer for "AI in Edu" on Feb. 8 at 8-9pm. Register==>msetonline.org/event-5135001 #ArtificialIntelligence #deeplearning #tech
I have a grading quandary for any #arted Tweeps still on this platform. Right before 🦃 break was hectic and I fell ~2.5 wks behind on grading. Just finished catching up & there are a TON of Ss with multiple inc & miss assignments. I never know how to handle it… 1/3
Most middle school Ss don’t have the exec func skills to keep track & independently self-start make-up/redos. Do I use class time to go over each assignment that should be done? Give class time for them to finish? If so, how do I manage? I teach #arted so… 2/3
Assignments are all paper & most incomplete assignments are because Ss create art at different rates & I moved on when the majority of the class was done. But multiply that by 5 assignments & different kids who were fast or slow for each one & it’s chaos! Thoughts? 3/3 #arted
