A California family gave over $4.4 million in political donations to Governor Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris and other leading California politicians. And now, that family's alleged past links to infamous suspected honeypot spy Fang Fang, also known as Christine Fang, and other Chinese government officials have thrust them into an ongoing debate over foreign influence in American politics.

LEGIT question: Is Newsom heading to PRISON!?! The DOJ has subpoenaed six years of Gavin Newsom travel records from the California State Protocol Foundation. This is going to get WILD! ⠀ The San Francisco Standard reviewed the papers. They were issued in early September out of the Eastern District of California and signed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Anderson. ⠀ The subpoenas say the records are for a criminal investigation. No charge has been filed. Tips went into the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento. ⠀ The foundation is a 25-year-old nonprofit that pays protocol costs the state would otherwise cover. Since 2019 Newsom has steered more than $7.5 million in outside donations into it. ⠀ About $5.1 million of that came from two inaugural funds tied to 2019 and 2023. Investigators also want communications with the governor. ⠀ They asked for records on international trips and events. They also asked about money used for the governor’s residence and personal living costs. ⠀ Named in the paper trail are protocol chief Rebecca Prowda, wife of San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, and Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Newsom first disclosed a federal probe of himself and his wife in June. ⠀ Board names in the subpoenas include former Newsom chief of staff Steve Kawa and former executive secretary Jim DeBoo. Also listed are Sacramento Kings COO Matina Kolokotronis and former deputy chief Jason Elliott. ⠀ Lawyer Thomas A. Willis of Olson Remcho is the foundation’s registered agent. His communications were demanded too. Newsom says he did nothing wrong and that Trump’s DOJ is targeting him for politics.
