Back on dry land after 2 weeks spent on MRV Scotia π deployed an experiment in the Faroe Shetland Channel looking at biofilm formation and potential degradation of different microplastics as part of my PhD research. Excited to retrieve it in a few months and see what we find! π¬
Great time the last few days at the @EBNetUK Early Career Researcher conference. Such an interesting range of topics covered and great to share our work looking at better understanding the microbes on plastic pollution in Vietnam π¦ π§«
Yesterdays adventure! Setting up more plastic biofilm experiments to see what microbes use them as a surface. Feel so lucky to be doing this work in such a beautiful place #3SIP2C
Field sampling today! In HΓ Nam, Vietnam sampling water and sediment to monitor microplastics in the Red River. 44C weather making for some very warm sampling! #3SIP2C
First experiment of the fieldtrip set up! We are incubating 13C labelled microplastics with environmental water samples from Vietnamese coastal waters to identify bacteria which can degrade and eat plastics π¦ π
Super excited to be joining the #3SIP2C project looking at the Sources, Sinks, and Solutions for the Impact of #Plastics on Coastal Communities in #VietNam π»π³ check out my blog post on our upcoming sampling campaign and experiment design

Yesterday was the first day COβ at Mauna Loa was 425 ppm. This is:
-likely the first time in the past 800,000 years.
-possibly not seen in over 3 million years (mid-pliocene warm period).
-A COβ forcing equal to 2.5-4Β°C of warming and 5-25 meters higher global sea level.

Trans rights are under attack.
At a time when the trans community is facing rising hate, excluding trans women from women's spaces would represent an appalling rollback and make it impossible for trans people to simply exist without fear.
