Walsh’s argument collapses when viewed through Thomas Sowell’s A Conflict of Visions Sowell’s central distinction is between the constrained vision and the unconstrained vision: • The constrained vision (the classic American/Founding/conservative one) starts from the premise that human nature is limited, flawed, and self-interested. No group of people is wise or virtuous enough to be trusted with concentrated power. Therefore the primary task of politics is to create processes and constraints that limit what any faction can do. Knowledge is dispersed, trade-offs are inevitable, and good intentions are secondary to incentives and institutional restraints. Berry’s line: “None are good, so limit government power” is pure constrained vision • The unconstrained vision starts from the opposite premise: human nature is malleable or perfectible, and the right people (the anointed, the moral, “our people”) can be trusted to use power to reshape society for the better. Once the correct group holds power, the main obstacles disappear. “Our people are good, so give us power” is the unconstrained formula, whether it comes from the left or from post-liberals on the right. Walsh’s reply: “You still need to have power in order to limit it…otherwise your movement is impotent” treats the constrained premise as optional or absurd. He is saying the desire for power must come first, and the principle of limitation is secondary. That is a quiet shift into the unconstrained vision: the moral correctness of the cause (or the team) is assumed to make the acquisition and use of power safe and necessary. In Sowell’s terms, Walsh is no longer arguing from the constrained view that no one is good enough; he is arguing that our side must seize power because the alternative is defeat. The “none are good” restraint becomes a luxury that only the winners can afford later The constrained vision does not forbid seeking electoral power. It insists that the justification for seeking it must remain the same: we need power precisely because we do not trust ourselves (or anyone else) with it. Once you drop that and start reasoning “we need power because our people are the ones who will use it rightly,” you have adopted the unconstrained logic. History under both left and right versions of that logic shows the same pattern: the constraints erode, the state expands, and the next faction inherits the larger machinery Berry is defending the constrained vision, Walsh is advocating for the unconstrained vision Up next for postliberals: “Well what the hell does Thomas Sowell know anyway!?”
This is absurd. Should conservatives not want power? Then what's the point? And even if I agreed that our motivating principle should be "limiting government power," you would still need to HAVE power in order to do that. So one way or another, unless you want your movement to be totally impotent and ineffectual and defeated, you want power. There is literally no other way to achieve even the aim that you've laid out in this post.

Yes, there have been some rightwing nuts who have committed violence against the left. But this is not a both sides issue. This is about one side, the side the data says has the most mentally unwell people, constantly using the platforms of the press and politicians to decry their opponents as Nazis, racists, fascists, bigots, and authoritarians out to destroy the country. This is about the worriers on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, etc. who claim the right is rolling back rights and Trump is an authoritarian. This is about the Democrat politicians who call for "fighting fire with fire." This is about the leftwing activists who have cheered on violence. This is about the leftwing politicians who have championed violence for trans rights, made excuses for violence, etc. This is about those on the left who said tax cuts would get people killed, Net Neutrality would get people killed, and medical reform would get people killed. This is about those in the press and left who, even this week, falsely said the Supreme Court had given Trump permission to deport people just based on their ethnicity, which is a lie. There are crazy and violent people on both sides, but only one side has the mainstream media, politicians, Hollywood celebrities, and more fueling the madness and poisoning the minds of activists on the left. Floyd Lee Corkins James Hodgkinson They were the beginning. It keeps getting worse. Yep, a crazy guy in Minnesota killed two Democratic politicians. But there were two assassination attempts on Trump. Two Israeli embassy workers were killed. A CEO was killed, and kids in multiple Christian schools were murdered. Do we really have to keep a body count for both sides? How about stop convincing progressive activists who already say they're suffering from despair from turning to violence as the way to stop their political opponents?

"Before we knew the government had subpoenaed secretly records of AP reporters, before we knew they'd spied on James Rosen of Fox News but during the same time period, I was reporting on controversies under the Obama administration and, quite frankly, other controversies. So, I didn't know who would be spying on me if somebody was. I never suspected that was the case, but intelligence sources, two in a row in the same time period, came to me and said that the Obama administration was violating civil rights through surveillance in ways that most Americans would find shocking. Both of them used similar phrases, didn't even know each other, and suggested that I was probably being monitored. Sounded crazy, because it just never occurred to me. I won't belabor the whole journey, but long story short: Through a series of forensics exams, the first one being an intelligence community insider [who] was able to locate software that had been implanted in my computer, intrusions that have been going on illegally at the hands of the government using government IP addresses and government proprietary software were found in my computer in a long term monitoring effort - at least one, and perhaps more than one." @SharylAttkisson

Constitutional Conservatives: I’m tired of “the right” label, and you should be too. It’s a trite, foreign scam that doesn’t describe us. We’re not some French aristocrats or anti-socialist suits. We’re Americans who live for the Constitution, liberty, and keeping government on a leash. It’s time we torch this “right-wing” nonsense and shout who we are: Constitutional Conservatives, unbowed and unafraid. Let’s get the history straight. The term “the right” comes from 1789, French Revolution, when monarchists sat on one side of the room and radicals on the other. In Europe, “the right” meant defending kings or later fighting off communist pipe dreams. That’s their circus, not ours. Our fight is for the U.S. Constitution—a document that spits in the face of European statism, built to keep power with the people. We fought to get rid of a monarch! Calling us “the right” is like slapping a beret on the Lincoln Monument. It’s absurd and insulting. Here’s why “the right” is a slap in the face: First, it’s a European straitjacket. Our Founders were rebels, not royalists, crafting a system to protect God-given rights, not some dusty tradition. We’re their heirs, not cousins of some French duke. Second, it lumps us with every fake “conservative”—populists, big-spenders, or fake culture-war clowns that just grift off of our genuine grievances—people who don’t really care about the Constitution or Capitalism. THAT’S NOT US! We’re about one thing: keeping government chained to the law of the land. Third, it lets the media and their globalist cronies frame us as the “left’s” mirror image or try to put us on the team with Hitler. Wrong! We’re not their opposite; we’re a different breed completely, fighting for 1776, not some Parisian squabble over which statism was better. The “right” label is a rhetorical trap. It’s how they dilute our principles and an attempt to turn us into members of another team that our grandfathers fought against in WWII! When some pundit or X troll calls you “right-wing,” hit ’em back: “I’m a Constitutional Conservative. I stand for liberty, not your imported labels.” We’re not here to play their game. We’re here to defend the America our Founders built—freedom, law, no nonsense. We’re done with this smear. We’re the people fighting to preserve America’s soul, and we don’t need actual leftists to define who we are anymore.

Senator Britt, I am a constituent. I live in Cedar Bluff. Can you please respond to Mrs. Basham?
Senator Britt, I wonder how you feel about this group’s lobbying against President Trump’s immigration policies. Are you aware that they are involved with a Soros-backed open borders group to oppose the Trump administration’s immigration reforms? Are you aware that they have similarly lobbied for gun control bills in Tennessee? Are you aware that they lobbied against a pro-life bill in Louisiana several years ago? You can read more about that here. centerforbaptistleadership.o…

I reject populism completely. It’s class rage, rooted in quicksand, devoid of principled truth and inevitability devolves into totalitarianism.

A friendly reminder: providing or requiring health insurance for (nearly) all Americans thru "Obamacare," Medicare, Medicaid, etc. doesn't lower health care costs, it drives them up (as we've seen). The idea of insurance for all was driven by those who profit from health care (hospitals, device & pharma companies, drs, etc.). It means they can charge exorbitant prices and they're guaranteed we'll pay (thru insurance via taxes and insurance premiums). If nobody had any insurance, few could afford the prices they're charging, and experts say prices would come down to more reasonable levels, like they are in some other countries. The same applies to college. Once the govt. started giving so many grants and loans, it meant colleges could jack up prices and they would have a bigger-than-ever customer base. If nobody could get grants and loans, few could afford the prices they're charging, and experts say tuition would come down to more reasonable levels, like they are in some other countries. Thoughts?

We overlook and  reward way too much bad behavior in this Country. There was a time when character, morals, and decorum mattered. Now we elevate people who have despicable pasts with no remorse to leadership roles and we wonder why our nation is in decline.  Nobody’s perfect, but could we at least ask for some level of decency?

I wished we lived in a country that still admired both Robert E. Lee and U.S. Grant as being great American heroes. Only perhaps 30 years ago was this the case, but now discourse on the Civil War is so politicized that people have been steered away from reconciliation.

Note what he is not saying. He is not saying that people do not have trauma or real challenges to overcome. He is not denying the real world effects of a cursed humanity. He is rejecting the codified and systematized DSM disease mongering by psychiatry. Do you know that successive editions of the DSM have gone from 47 “mental disorders” in 1952 to now 300? There’s a subsequent medication and therapy regiment now substantiating a billions of dollars industry. Business is good preying on the vulnerable and hurting. Biblical counseling does NOT deny physiological realities. That’s an absurd slander. What Biblical counseling does is take serious the sufficiency of Scripture to identify and overcome sin and its effect. Too many run to the world first and not to the word.
