The “September 20, 2024” writers room desperately scrambling to top “black nazi/political journalist sexting with presidential candidate/Trump blaming possible November loss on the Jews.”
Just got into an Uber in Dallas. I’m in the car for ten seconds, and driver asks me, “Jeff, would it be ok if I shared my testimony with you?”
“What exactly do you mean by your testimony?”
“My story.”
“And what is your story about?”
“How the Lord saved me.”
I declined.
And then we ended up talking and I told him I’d be happy to hear his story so long as he understood I was not interested in being converted.
And he told me his story, which was sad and moving and a little inspirational, and I told him a bit about my life. It all felt genuine.

I'm going to tweet out a few of my favorite passages from #LoneStarsRising, the @TexasMonthly book I edited that came out on Tuesday. There's tons of really great writing in this volume, and I'd like to honor some of it. tinyurl.com/yuk5fbfn
And, finally (for now) @cd_hooks's deadpan appreciation of Texas's current far-right lieutenant governor Dan Patrick.
Agh, how could I have forgotten @stephenharrigan's masterful intro to the book, which is as good an example as any of why many of us regard him as the finest prose stylist to ever grace the magazine's pages?
@BBQsnob on the thrill of trying @franklinbbq for the first and second time.
