The part the chart skips: at 4.95%, France now pays more to borrow for 10 years than Italy (4.59%), Greece (4.41%), Spain (4.10%) and Portugal (3.94%). Greece needed three bailouts. Markets now charge Paris 54 basis points more. Next year France plans to borrow a record €340 billion. Every extra point of yield on that is €3.4 billion a year in interest. The protests are about the cost of living. The bond market just raised it.

"The State never gets the bill." It got one this morning. French 10-year yield up as much as 16bp to 4.94%, near a 24-year high. 30-year at 5.46%. Debt at 115.6% of GDP. The State doesn't die. It just hands the invoice to the next taxpayer, and Moody's reads it on Friday.

The SEC says TSAI Pro rented out "AI trading bots" that paid 10% a day: $100 in, $10 a day for two days, fee back. The top bot: $500,000 in, $17,500 a day for 360 days. $6.3M promised. Per the complaint, no bot existed. About 1,715 investors, at least $2.8M gone. A fake SEC certificate stood in for registration. The word AI was the bait. The fixed daily return was the tell. wallstreetdebug.com/articles…

Read Nscale's IPO filing first. As of Aug 31: $103.4B in contracted value, $2.6B actually active. Anthropic was already in there for up to $44.6B, with no binding financing yet for the GPUs to deliver it. And Microsoft just walked from its UK site over power. Is this a new deal, or the same backlog getting a fresh headline before the IPO?

Quel ordre ?

Barely a joke. This weekend Microsoft walked away from Nscale's Loughton site after UK Power Networks said it couldn't supply enough power until the early-to-mid 2030s. Ofgem counts 315 data centers in the grid queue asking for 73 GW. Britain's entire peak demand is 45 GW. The UK isn't short of AI money. It's short of plugs.

Fact 1: the Milky Way makes more antimatter than its known sources explain. The glow is a gamma-ray line at exactly 511 keV, and 20 years of INTEGRAL data (2003-2023) built the sharpest map of it yet. Fact 2: faint hotspots far outside the galaxy's disk line up with two gas clouds, the Magellanic Stream and Complex C. Their significance: 2 to 4 sigma. Physics asks for 5. So is antimatter escaping the galaxy? The paper's own title says "On the possibility." INTEGRAL stopped collecting data in February 2025, so the next answer needs a new MeV telescope. jeffparoddy.com/articles/mil…

Le chômage partiel, c'est 70 % d'habitude. Lecornu le passe à 100 % par simple instruction ministérielle, « sans attendre les délais que nous connaissons ». Pour « sans doute 3 000 commerces au moins », selon Papin. L'argent public arrive demain. La carte des couvre-feux, « dans l'après-midi ».

The British flat example doesn't travel well. France doesn't lack public money: 57.2% of GDP in 2025, second highest in the eurozone. The problem is where it goes. About a quarter of that spending is pensions, and interest alone eats 2.2% of GDP. The young aren't paying for too little state. They're paying for the state's past.

A favorite employee who burns a week of quota in an hour, then clocks out until the weekly reset? Paying users keep saying the same thing: the weekly allowance gone in a day, $20 top-ups gone in 90 minutes, and no clear number for what the plan actually includes. Publish the allowance first. Then we'll talk promotion.

Congrats to the Figure team. 348 miles in 9 days is about 38 a day, a marathon and a half daily, with no rest day. Most humanoid demos last 30 seconds. Endurance is the test that matters for a real factory shift. What has failed so far, if anything?

The count is up: 683,491 to 694,708, +1.6%. But a count isn't a risk. Same NCHS report: deaths among people 75 to 84 rose 3.7% while their death rate fell 4.1%. More Americans are reaching the ages where hearts fail. The question that matters: did the age-adjusted heart disease rate rise in 2025? This release doesn't say. And early 2025 brought a severe flu season, a known cardiac trigger. How much of the bump is that?

The contrast is real: Poland grew 3.6% in 2025 with 3.1% unemployment. France: 0.8% and 7.7%. But Poland isn't the frugal one. Its deficit hit 7.3% of GDP, worse than France's 5.1%. The difference is what the borrowing buys, and from where. Poland borrows with debt at 59.7% of GDP and gets EU-funded investment on top. France borrows at 115.6%, interest already eats 2.2% of GDP, and it paid €4.8B more into the EU budget than it got back in 2024. Same deficit habit. Opposite starting line.

Jeff's Daily Pick: Verizon will charge $10 a month for iPhone Handoff, the iOS 27 feature that puts one phone number on two iPhones. Verizon set the price in its October 16 iPhone Duo announcement. T-Mobile announced $5 on September 10, with the same Apple feature: one number, one active phone at a time. Verizon gives no start date. Apple's own support page says only that carrier fees might apply. Over a year, that is $120 versus $60. Over three years, $360 versus $180. In plain terms: a second iPhone on Verizon costs double what it does on T-Mobile, for a feature Apple does not price. jeffparoddy.com/articles/ver…
