U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye. U.S. Senator from Arizona, Ret

As I said in this speech in the Senate Chamber in 2018: “The President has it precisely backward - despotism is the enemy of the people. The free press is the despot's enemy, which makes the free press the guardian of democracy.”youtube.com/watch?v=F478MIFu…

I will miss my friend Senator Jon Kyl. What a good and honorable man.

Arizona has lost a giant. Jon Kyl was one of the most diligent and effective public servants Arizona has ever had. I was honored to follow him in the U.S. Senate, where his example of seriousness, integrity and devotion to public service was known to all. Cheryl and I send our deepest condolences to Caryll and the entire Kyl family. kjzz.org/politics/2026-09-17…

On this anniversary of 9/11, we remember those who gave their lives for people they had never met, and we honor those who still keep us safe. Never forget.

I enjoyed this interview
On Radio Atlantic, former U.S Senator and Ambassador Jeff Flake discusses what it means for him to still identify as a Republican, despite feeling as though the party has moved away from the things it claimed to stand for. theatlantic.com/podcasts/202…

So sorry to hear this. Harry was a remarkable public servant and a kind and decent man. Arizona and the country are better because of him. Harry Mitchell, former Tempe mayor and US congressman, dies at age 86 azcentral.com/story/news/loc… via @azcentral

Lindsey Graham was invoked in nearly every piece of legislation that moved in the Senate. Part of every gang, involved in virtually every discussion. We could disagree mightily (like we did here), then have dinner the same evening (which we did). He will be missed.

Wow. This hits me like a ton of bricks. There is probably no one I served with for 18 years in the House, Senate, and during my time as Ambassador, that I have more fond memories of. He loved his colleagues and his country. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

When considering a candidate for public office, character is a more important consideration than policy. Policies change. Character remains.
Exclusive: Former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) tells me he'd vote for James Talarico over Ken Paxton if he lived in Texas. He also urged Dems to vote for Susan Collins in Maine. “Whenever the parties back off from character, it doesn’t inure to the benefit of the country." 🧵🧵🧵
