Steelers defense the last two weeks: - Held Jonathan Taylor to 45 yards on 15 carries - Held Bucky Irving to 46 yards on 19 carries - Allowed 2 total touchdowns There's some in-game things that frustrate you but big-picture, this unit has done its job. #Steelers

I cannot believe how awful the @Sonos system has become. Completely unreliable. Inexplicably unavailable on my network. The brand damage they’ve inflicted on themselves over the past 2 years is extraordinary. A case study in the value and imperative of reliability.

You should be fascinated hitting the power button on your computer. Every boot on an x86 machine iterates through the entire sequence of computing evolution in a few milliseconds: Stage 1: 16-bit Real Mode, acts like an 8086 from ~1978. 500ns (ish); about 15-30 instructions. Goal of this stage is to create a writeable stack+heap. Stage 2: 32-bit Protected Mode, acts like a 386 from ~1985. Tens of millions of instructions; takes forever on DDR5 /w memory training. Temporarily uses L2/L3 “cache-as-ram” to kickstart main ram (Intel calls this NEM). Stage 3: 64-bit Long Mode, acts like AMD64 from ~2003. Hundreds of millions of instructions; enumerate pcie devices, gpu, bootloader, etc. Stage 4+: Secondary core wakeup. Every *single* core has to go through the same process, but by this point it’s faster because Main RAM is warmed up. Stage 2 is just so neat man. Quite literally the same concept as an APU/cart start. Use the smaller motor (L2/L3) to kickstart the main turbine (Main Ram) and execute the training process. Is that not just the coolest thing? Next time I’m annoyed waiting at the DDR5 training process, I’m going to imagine it’s spinning up SR71 turbines.

“The consumer team at Bernstein recently put this logic to the test in a brilliant piece of research. They sketched, designed, commissioned, and shipped 500 pairs of high-end sneakers. The whole process took just four months, and each pair cost less than £50 delivered, a fraction of the average selling price of shoes of comparable quality.” - Latitude Investment Management Q3:2026 letter

I want to say something about Americans. Nine out of ten people I take round Carnoustie are American. That is not a statistic I read somewhere, it is who is standing on my first tee, season after season. You have fed my children and put a roof over my head. My gran was born just south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So there's always been a wee bit of America in my family. And after spending nearly 30 years walking the fairways with Americans, I suppose there's a fair bit of it in me too. Nearly everybody who has backed what I am building has been American too. They buy the books. They email in and ask for me on the bag. They share my posts with people who have never heard of me. And not one of them has ever made me feel like I was getting above myself. That is the bit. The Canadians are the same. The English. The Australians. And there are Scots, my own folk, who know exactly what I am talking about here and have been right behind me. And politics does not come into it for me. Either side of the aisle, you have all been here, you love this country and you love the golf. That is all I have ever needed to know about a man. In Scotland there is a thing we do. Somebody puts their head up and tries to build something, and the instinct is to take the legs from them. Who does he think he is. A caddie writing books. Aye, right. And I keep taking a knife in the back. It is a strange place to live. Today I had a full on attack on me and on my friends. The biggest example of it I have seen yet. I am a big boy. I will never give in to it. I love this country. The course I walk is the greatest piece of ground in golf and it made me what I am. But it is hard here. You spend half your energy on the work and the other half apologising for having a go. It kills me to say it. I think I would thrive in America. Here it is a struggle to breathe. I am not after sympathy and I am not going anywhere. I will be on the first tee next season the same as every season since 1998. One day I will tell you the story of my grandfather, and then you will understand why I will never give up. But to every one of you who has bought a book, asked for me by name, or told somebody I exist: you have no idea what that does for a man who is used to being told to sit down. I find you the best people on earth. America, Canada, thank God you exist. – at Carnoustie, Scotland

CLT boldly asked "How can we build the worst airport in the world?"
Replying to @adampnathan
Charlotte went the other way. Its longtime director, Jerry Orr, ran it like Walmart: "everyday low prices." He built only when the airport absolutely needed it. By 2013, Charlotte charged airlines about $1 per passenger. The typical large hub charged $9 or $10.

A slice of Dave's Killer Bread has more added sugar than a slice of Wonder Bread. On the 21 Whole Grains and Seeds loaf the ingredients go organic whole wheat, water, organic cane sugar, then the grain and seed mix. Ingredients are listed by weight, so there's more cane sugar in the loaf than the entire 21 grain and seed mix. A Dave's slice weighs 45 grams and has about a teaspoon of added sugar. Wonder Classic White has 5 grams in two slices, which weigh under 30 grams each. Gram for gram the two breads come out about even.

On this day in 2009, at the crack of dawn, more than 400 insurgents attacked the 53 US servicemembers at the remote Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan. The COP was at the bottom of three steep mountains just a few miles from the border with Pakistan. 1/
