The stuff Flanagan does well outpaces the stuff that falls apart between the theater and the subway by quite a bit.
My ★★★★ review of The Life of Chuck (2024) on @letterboxd: boxd.it/ac4jxz
The world of John Wick seems like a wide-open canvas, but there's actually not much you can do there that the four main films didn't cover.
(Besides a flamethrower fight)
My ★★½ review of Ballerina (2025) on @letterboxd: boxd.it/a4YTF5
On the blog: Western THE UNHOLY TRINITY gets much more fun once Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson shove the protagonist out of the way.

Seems like an awful lot of money spent on a movie these same people had already made, but it's still pretty darn good for all the reasons the animated film was.
My ★★★★ review of How to Train Your Dragon (2025) on @letterboxd: boxd.it/9Z84M1

On the blog - DETECTIVE KIEN: THE HEADLESS HORROR is a pretty fun Vietnamese take on a period detective tale with potential supernatural stuff.

Huh, Corey Lewis is crowdfunding his stuff now? Huh. Well, I liked SHARKNIFE and PENG!, so...

A little too much (potential) finale gravitas, but the big action bits are still impeccable.
