The establishment hates, genuinely hates, grassroots democracy. It's why they stigmatise left-wing participation as "entryism" or "infiltration" and demand politicians police and abhor their own membership and voters. Hence Starmerism.

I do find this really quite abhorrent, in the same way that it was disgraceful when Burnham made the same pronouncement that the ZiR motion was antisemitic in Parliament There are many very prominent Jewish and Palestinian people who supported the ZiR motion and have spoken in favour of it. There are very large numbers of British Jews who are anti-Zionist (approx. 38,000, or 12% of all British Jews), a good portion of whom are anti-Zionist because they see Zionism is inextricably and undeniably racist. It is extraordinary that Coburn thinks it's OK to declare them anti-semitic, and for the BBC to repeatedly fail to point out that anti-Zionism is a protected belief that has been declared to be "worthy of respect in a democratic society"; and that includes when anti-Zionism is predicated on the idea that Israel's foundation was a racist endeavor. Really, these people live in a weird bubble. Approximately 50% people in Britain think Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza. Only 17% do not. I'd wager that most ordinary people are looking at this furore and thinking to themselves: hold on, are we really saying the country committing genocide, whose leaders are wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity, is not racist?
“[Saying] ‘Zionism is racism’ is offensive, it’s antisemitic and it’s dangerous” Broadcaster Jo Coburn says she “watched in horror” as the Green Party passed its motion on Zionism and criticises leader Zack Polanski's defence in his #BBCLauraK interview bbc.co.uk/news/live/c64gv8k2…

So you've 1) kept the building open but taken away the staff, 2) renamed the office so it's not actually a consulate general anymore, 3) refused to do anything reciprocal to Israel's diplomatic staff, even though equal treatment is a standard diplomatic protocol? If this is standing up to Israel, what is giving in?

This, 100% — and it’s precisely the racism that goes without a second thought among every mainstream journalist. Palestinians are never awarded the same level of concern. They are absent from the conversation; dispossed physically and in also in the endless media rhetoric.
When was the last time that any of presenters on @BBCr4today, or indeed anywhere @BBCNews, made an equally passionate stand for the right to a safe home for Palestinians after their dispossession and genocide? I can't remember one of them risking their job to call for justice

Compare this forceful, repetitive (and disingenuously hostile) questioning to the utterly disgraceful soft-soap interview Robinson did with Morgan McSweeney - who had basically catalysed the collapse of Starmer by using his power to help make Peter Mandelson ambassador. Recall that in that interview, Robinson neglected to ask McSweeney anything about how he broken electoral law for two years, his knowledge of the APCO smearing scandal, or his scandalous dark arts campaigns to make Starmer leader. He didn't even question McSweeney properly about McSweeney saying he wasn't factional! It was genuinely pathetic, cloying stuff, a total dereliction of duty by the BBC. But be left wing? Question Zionism? Whoo boy. Then Robinson is a prosecutor trying to close a case - pushing and interrupting because he doesn't want to give space for an answer, giving no sense he wants to actually learn what Polanski thinks, or let the listener find out either. I wonder why? Maybe it's because ordinary listeners might not be so shocked by the Green Party saying a state committing genocide is underpinned by a racist ideology; they might think that it's entirely reasonable, if Polanski is given the space to explain, how there is a nugget of truth in the idea that Zionism-as-practiced is racism. Polanski did very well staying calm in the face of such bad-faith interviewing, not least because he likely didn't have a wink of sleep after the Holborn count. Shameful stuff, yet again, from Robinson.
Why is this a difficult question to answer ?

Why do people only ever ask 'Does Israel have the right to exist?' How about Lebanon? Does Lebanon have the right to exist? Syria? At the moment, parts of those countries are under occupation. Do journalists ask questions about those countries' rights to exist?

Tower Hamlets Council refused the Brick Lane data centre unanimously. Nine resident groups opposed it. The council and the mayor asked for housing instead. The government approved it anyway, through ministerial recovery, with the letter signed on behalf of Angela Rayner. The scheme offers 44 homes, six of them for social rent, and a data centre built around high-frequency trading. Rayner's partner, Sam Tarry, has been senior adviser since May at NorthPoint Strategy, a lobby firm whose sectors include AI, crypto and energy. Its chair is Tory peer Lord Wharton. Its crypto council lists Andreessen Horowitz among its clients. NorthPoint says Tarry helps clients "shape policy agendas". The minister who decides where data centres go shares a household with the adviser to the industry that needs them. 🧵 europeanpowell.substack.com/…

This is extraordinary. Sagal Abid-Wali has more robustly condemned the Green Party "Zionism is racism" motion than the genocide in Gaza. Sagal Abdi-Wali did not say anything to denounce or condemn Israel's genocide in the years before her selection as a candidate. She has repeatedly not answered emails asking for statements she made on Gaza since October 7th 2026. She didn't sign a PSC Candidate Pledge to "uphold the rights of Palestinians." She sat silent as her colleagues rewrote Camden's Constitution to allow the the Mayor to kick people out for holding signs and flags in the public gallery - in response to huge public outcry about Camden's investments in companies like Elbit and Palantir. She didn't even answer emails from the Green Councillor on Camden Council, Lorna Russell, asking her to support motions for divestment from genocide. But a Green Party motion? That gets condemned. Telling.
Labour's candidate in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election has condemned the Green Party for declaring that Zionism is a form of racism, as her record on the issue of Israel and Palestine comes under scrutiny

Israeli soldiers were transformed into willful executioners of a genocide through orders and indoctrination, as in other genocides. What's unique here is the self-recorded thrill of many of them while destroying civilian lives: didn't the "most moral army" know this is criminal?
In a report by Swedish television, Israeli soldiers complain about our work at HRF and portray themselves as victims. They seem outraged by the idea that they could be held personally accountable for a genocide they continue to justify. Watch till the end.

This must be one of the most despicable sentences ever to appear in @guardian: 'Without doubt, it is deeply upsetting that thousands of Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza, and many feel that Israel could have done more to minimise civilian casualties.' In fact, many feel that, apart from using nuclear weapons, Israel could not have done more to maximise civilian casualties.
The Guardian has published a vile piece by Dave Rich accusing anyone who says Israel deliberately kills children of engaging in blood libel. Apparently, the slaughter of Palestinian children in Gaza is a byproduct of a “tragic and unbearable conflict”.

Please read this before voting for Sagal. Her record is poor, to put it politely
With the Holborn and St Pancras by-election tomorrow, we have REMOVED the paywall from our piece on Abdi-Wali. Her campaign has been keen to avoid any serious scrutiny of their candidate. Read this if you want to understand Abdi-Wali from those who've worked with her ⬇️

I actually can't believe it. The Labour Party is briefing smears about me, AGAIN, because of my factually accurate, public interest reporting - this time about their candidate in Holborn & St Pancras, Sagal Abdi-Wali. AGAIN, the Labour Party is going after a journalist living in Camden, because I've reported on Camden Council's terrible record on housing and their increasing investments in companies supplying weapons to Israel like Elbit, Lockheed Martin and Palantir. They're pushing a story implying factually accurate, rigorous reporting of Sagal Abdi-Wali is somehow illegitimate or sexist - two days before people cast their votes to choose the new MP for the constituency. I wrote some of those articles with Jessica Murray, who, in addition to being brilliant, just so happens to be a woman! It is risible, pathetic stuff from a Party and campaign that plainly can't answer straight questions about her record; and a Party whose deplorable recent history of embracing Islamophobia and anti-black racism I exposed in considerable detail in The Fraud. What makes it worse is that this is just six months after it was revealed that Labour Together, APCO and the Labour Party were part of scheme that made up the most disgusting defamatory lies about me, my family and colleagues, and which saw me reported to the security services. A despicable report containing these outright lies and fabrications was given to journalists and handled at the very highest levels of the Labour Party. That, too, was in response to my factually accurate, rigorous investigative journalism that exposed the sordid and unlawful origins of Sir Keir Starmer's disgraced leadership and the role of Labour Together. Now it seems the Labour Together project lives on in Sagal's campaign. I am keeping an open mind on Andy Burnham. I told Mark Steele on his wonderful podcast two weeks ago that I would "dedicate my life" to Burnham if he brought in electoral reform. But it seems the Labour Party machinery he has inherited is the same rotten machinery that was captured by Labour Together and gave us Sir Keir Starmer. Yesterday, I started asking Sagal to disclose who else was funding her election campaign, after it was revealed her campaign received £50k from Dale Vince, who funded Labour Together and backs new oil & gas drilling in the North Sea. Sagal has not answered. Today, I'm being smeared for asking straightforward questions about Abdi-Wali and her record - questions she has repeatedly failed to answer, despite multiple right of replies sent to her and her campaign. To me that shows the Labour Party is terrified that voters in Holborn & St Pancras might find out the truth about her record as a councillor and vote accordingly. And that seems like an invitation to publish a mega-thread setting out everything there is to know about Sagal and her record. That'll be dropping tomorrow.

This is an appalling & shameful article BELOW by @freedland in @guardian I am a Jewish Green I have read the motion he talks about carefully. It would absolutely NOT lead to expulsions for Jews attending synagogues. This is pure fabrication & fear-mongering The problem with Zionism is that it was based on the idea of “a land without people, for a people without land”. BUT the land was NOT without people. Millions & millions of Palestinians have been persecuted, ethnically cleansed & killed BECAUSE of Zionism Freedland basically IGNORES the Palestinians - the victims of Zionism theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Ok. This has gone too far. What on earth is Sagal Abdi-Wali doing inviting this man to campaign with her? Why is she walking around with a politician whose friends and allies tried to destroy the lives of local residents and journalists in her constituency - to protect Reed and Morgan McSweeney and Keir Starmer. It is genuinely an outrage he is here. Reed was an absolute central character in the Morgan McSweeney/Labour Together war on democracy that produced Starmer. He is implicated in so much wrongdoing I don't even know where to start. Reed is a key character in The Fraud. He was a director of Labour Together from 2016 to 2022. During this period, Labour Together broke the law by failing to report donations as required by law. They used this money to, among other things, purposefully undermine the electoral prospects of the Labour Party. They wanted to give the Tories five more years of corruption and austerity so that they could take over the Labour Party they believed belong to their tiny, regressive faction. The strategy document setting this out was literally printed out in Steve Reed's office and handed to insiders. I exposed the dodgy money when I took documents to the Sunday Times, and then what they did with it in the Fraud. In response, Labour Together hired a reputation management firm called APCO Worldwide to investigate me and my colleagues. They ended up producing a disgusting dossier filled with outright lies and falsehoods about me, my family, my colleague Andrew Feinstein, and other journalists like Gabriel Pogrund at the Times, who I worked with on the story. They found my home address, in Camden where Abdi-Wali is standing, and found out the name of my partner, and then tried to dig up dirt on her family. They did this while my partner pregnant. Labour Together used this dossier to report me to the security services and then handed its despicable content to journalists. We now know that dossier was given to Morgan McSweeney and distributed at the very highest levels of the Labour Party and was even sent to the Cabinet Office. I had to threaten to sue the Guardian stuff defamation to stop them printing stories based on that less that would have destroyed my reputation and livelihood. Almost exactly a year ago, Reed appeared at an event at Labour conference. The Fraud had not been published. Reed attacked me and the book, saying all sorts of things about my family, which were private. Was Reed quoting from this dossier? Maybe. We also know, for certain, that the Labour Party somehow got a PDF copy of my book as it was sent to print. How? I have no idea. Only a tiny number of people had access to it. Why were they so scared of the book? Because it repeatedly laid bare the misconduct of Reed and his friends. One example? Files showed that Reed received emails criminally hacked from a local journalist in Croydon, who had been hacked to find his sources - who were blowing the whistle on the incompetence of Reed's allies on Croydon council who were driving it to bankruptcy. In government, Reed did extraordinary damage in just two years. He first blocked moves towards nationalising water while at Defra. At Local Government and Housing he passed guidelines to allow mega property developers slash the number of affordable houses they must build in new developments. He passed new laws to stop local council's divesting from companies complicit in genocide - after promising the Board of Deputies in a meeting in 2020 that he would stop local governments exercising their power to boycott Israel. The irony is that it was Labour Together's insane attack on journalists that ended Starmer. Josh Simons, who directed Labour Together when it appointed APCO, resigned this year after being managed out of Cabinet. That allowed Burnham to stand in Makerfield, then as leader - to the fury of Reed, the last Starmerite. Now Sagal is claiming to bring hope again. Well in Camden she's just brought a scumbag to campaign.
Lovely evening door-knocking with the wonderful @Sagal_AW Vote Labour on Thursday 8th October 🌹
