Unless the new "Armed Response Command" will have the ability to respond anywhere in under 30 seconds, fatality numbers will be in double-digits before a call to Triple-0 even connects. The Minns Government completely misunderstands the differing role between armed security, on-site, briefed and familiar, and a police response which may not even be available. As they say, "when seconds count, police are only minutes away". To put this in some further perspective, it can take 25 minutes to get from one end of Bondi Road to the beach in weekend traffic and lights and sirens won't help where traffic is bumper to bumper with no ability to pull over. That is, if this "Armed Response Command" had existed when the Bondi Massacre took place, they would have arrived just in time to do exactly nothing of value. I will say however that rifles are an excellent tool for police and should stop being treated as a specialist weapon. An entirely untrained person will be more likely to get a shot on-target with a rifle than a handgun.
