Last Monday night, my sister, Heather, became a widow and a solo parent to her 3 kids. My brother-in-law, Rodney, passed away and is now at rest in the arms of his Creator. Rodney’s health journey was never easy. His relentless battle with debilitating ulcerative colitis and eventual colon cancer spanned decades and was riddled with pain and discomfort. But until his final breath Rodney was an incredible example of unshakable faith and living for eternity, not for this world. While the rest of us wrestled with the “why” and the fairness of it all, Rodney simply understood as long as he glorified God in his suffering, there was good that could come from it. Rodney knew where he was heading and his primary goal was to bring as many people with him to Heaven as possible. One of his coworkers put together this GoFundMe to help my sister and her kids. Rodney was the sole provider for the family while my sister homeschooled the kids and kept the house in order. This is meant to help ease the burden of funeral expenses, any leftover cancer treatment expenses, and the transition into finding a job and figuring out what life looks like as a solo parent trying to navigate a full time workload, schooling, extracurriculars, etc. I do want to make something clear. She and the kids will be ok. They are surrounded by family, an excellent support system and a loving God that they trust limitlessly to help pave their path forward. This is not a desperate plea for help. They will get through this. However, if you are the kind of person/family that sets aside funds for excess generosity, I can assure you any help would be an impactful blessing. If that is not for you or you are not in a position to contribute, please don’t sweat it. Just walk away hearing the one thing Rodney would want you to know: Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and Life. gofundme.com/f/celebrating-r…
