Let me tell you about a boy in our school. He struggles with literacy and numeracy. But, boy can he play piano very well. And the drums. And sing. And read music. And work stuff out by ear. In schools that neglect music, he would be a boy who struggles with literacy and numeracy.

If we want Music Education to be valued then we need to make it valuable. We need to ensure it’s inclusive of every child. We need to ensure it’s meaningful to them. We need to ensure it leaves them with the ability to engage with music in a purposeful way once they leave school.
