New in #ERSS! With @KacperSzulecki and @jenk2021 we traced the development of #energyjustice and #energydemocracy research fields, asking which countries, topics, tech, and social groups are reflected, and how EJ and ED are defined.
doi.org/10.1016/j.erss.2023.…
ED conceptualization? Before 2018, one’d go to Kunze and Becker 2014 or Sweeney 2013. After 2018, it’s mostly Szulecki 2018.

31 European countries' air travel: flights shorter than 500 km account for 27.9% of departures but 5.9% of fuel burnt; vs. flights longer than 4,000 km account for 6.2% of departures but 47.0% of fuel burnt.

Banning super-short haul flights is getting a lot of attention as a way to reduce aviation emissions.
But how effective it would be in reducing emissions? In our new paper with Frédéric Dobruszkes & Laurette Mathieu we find: *very little*. doi.org/10.1016/j.jtrangeo.2…

First step, I will chair a roundtable on impacts of the war on #Ukraine on global energy politics with @michele_knodt @YanaZabanova @CarolineKuzemko @JanOsicka2 and Anna Herranz-Surralles, hosted by @ECPR Research Network on Energy Politics
The network: ecpr.eu/StandingGroups/Stand…
Looking forward to kicking-off the section I am co-chairing with @CarolineKuzemko at the @ECPR general conference on the changing political economy of the transition to climate-neutrality. #ecprgc22

"Russia has made natural gas what renewable energy used to be: unreliable and expensive."
- from our new opinion in #ERSS (with @cernoch_filip):
"European energy politics after Ukraine: The road ahead"
authors.elsevier.com/a/1fW1N…
Key observations follow.
• Europe is well positioned to break free from the energy dependence on Russia.
• There may be less market, more state, and more Europe in energy affairs.
• Securitization of natural gas can boost renewable energy acceptance.

There is still some time to take part in our COST online #webinar „War against Ukraine and the EU“
