This Swallowtail was the first Butterfly we saw after crossing the railway lines at Strumpshaw Fen RSPB., Norfolk. It a good job this one posed well as the few others we saw did not hang about. @BC_Norfolk @savebutterflies @RSPB_Strumpshaw @ukbutterflies23 @NatureUK
On the way back from a successful trip to Norfolk yesterday we stopped for awhile to see the small colony of Wall Brown Butterflies in Cambridgeshire. Much better than our usual climb up Bardon hill. 馃槈馃憤 @savebutterflies @uk_butterflies
Things winding down on our Butterfly Transects, only 36 individuals from 10 species noted. The highlight was the second Clouded Yellow for the year. @savebutterflies @BCWarwickshire @uk_butterflies @WKWT
Between 2008 and 2025 we have only had a total of 26 Brown Argus in Bubbenhall Wood. This year we have recorded 63 so far. I think they all came off the Meadow as it's been so hot. @savebutterflies @BCWarwickshire @uk_butterflies @WKWT
At Ryton CP. this Brown Hairstreak appeared very suddenly on the path I was walking. Just had time to get my camera out, two quick snaps and it flew off. Saves me searching the tops of all the local Ash Trees.馃憤馃槂 @savebutterflies @BCWarwickshire @uk_butterflies @BenColeman_28
For a brief moment I thought we had our first Brown Argus in the garden. S**t. I should never had checked the underwing pattern. Common Blue Butterfly. 馃憥

A Red Knot at Draycote Reservoir, Warwickshire today. It was near the white pipes at 14.00 then on the end of one of the pipes at 14.30. @Draycotebirding No sign of any Red-Veined Darters.
Yesterdays Hummingbird Hawkmoth. Even with perfect windless weather and a moth that I could get very close to I still had difficulty staying on it. @MOTHIDUK @savebutterflies @BCWestMidlands
Waiting for us when we arrived home today. My second in the garden this year. @MOTHIDUK @savebutterflies @BCWestMidlands
My 14ft x 5ft front garden seems to be becoming a haven for Skippers. The maximum count was seven, 2 Essex and 5 small, but different ones were coming and going all the time. One Small Skipper had a lot of white in the wings. @savebutterflies @BCWestMidlands @uk_butterflies
646 individuals on my transects this week. The best of which was again Purple Emperors with two taking minerals/salt on the ground. @BCWarwickshire @savebutterflies @uk_butterflies @wkw
A nice end to my transect today when this Purple Emperor landed just a few feet from my car. A further 15 species were also noted (338 individuals). Also noted was a Scarlet Tiger in the wood. @savebutterflies @BCWarwickshire @uk_butterflies
Lucky for us the Western Reef Heron hung on until we had our annual break on Anglesey. We were going to see it again before we left, but the bird had left by then.

It was too far for us to go to the other heron yesterday. So we settled for a trip to Lincolnshire, in the sunshine, to catch up with a Squacco Heron and Long-Eared Owl juveniles. @RareBirdAlertUK @BirdGuides
74 individuals from eight species on the transects this morning. Our 1st White Admiral of the season, unfortunately not this one. Also, not a butterfly but a Hummingbird Hawkmoth that kept landing on the path ahead of us. @savebutterflies @BCWarwickshire @MOTHIDUK @uk_butterflies
58 Heath Spotted-Orchid noted today in the Wet Meadow. None were found in the Dry Meadow. @wildflower_hour @ukorchids @NatureUK @BSBIbotany
Just four clearwings this week; Orange-Tailed and Red-Belted in West Midlands garden, Welsh in Staffordshire and White-Barred in Shropshire. All attracted to lures. @BCWestMidlands @savebutterflies
A visit to Wyre Forest over the Bank Holiday where we saw many Pearl=Bordered Fritillaries. We then went to some picnic benches and while I was getting the TIP lure ready to hang in nearby bushes three White-Barred Clearwings joined us at the table. @savebutterflies @MOTHIDUK
Managed to see all the species we were looking for as we made our way down Prestbury Hill, Marsh and Duke of Burgundy Fritillaries shown. 馃憤 Disappointingly we had to make our way back up to the car in the heat. 馃サ鈽癸笍 @savebutterflies @uk_butterflies
58 individuals from 11 species noted in the hot sunshine this morning. Large Skippers are the latest species to be recorded. Managed to get it done before the temperature climbed to high. @savebutterflies @BCWarwickshire @uk_butterflies
Nine species of butterfly noted on the transects walked on the 16th May. New for this year were; Brown Argus, Common Blue and Small Heath. @savebutterflies @BCWarwickshire
