"Have we learnt the lessons of Babel or Prometheus? It would appear not when it comes to artificial intelligence. Technology which has the potential to be hugely beneficial, making advances in medicine and data analysis for example, also has the potential for great harm. Is AI a wonderful tool to be utilised or another example of human overreaching?" care.org.uk/news/2026/09/ai-…

This, this, this.
This is the constitution working. The expert house asked the elected house to think again. The Commons did so, and agreed with the Lords that the Bill wasn't safe.

This is absolutely right. Huge thanks and credit to so, so many campaigners. But especially to MPs who voted against and those who swapped from voting for. Thank you.

Thank you @EvangelicalsNow for quoting @ARossHendry, the CEO of @careorguk in response to today’s phenomenal outcome in the vote on #assistedsuicide
📣 BREAKING: Evangelicals across the country are celebrating after MPs voted against the assisted suicide bill. 🙏 "The Psalms teach us to give thanks to God for He is good, and His love endures forever (Psalm 136v1)," said Ross Hendry, CEO of Christian Action, Research and Education. "He has truly and wonderfully heard the prayers of … Christians across the whole country." Response from CARE CEO @ARossHendry below 👇
Praise God, the House of Commons, MPs voted 286 to 270 against the Assisted Suicide Bill! This result means that this dangerous and irredeemably flawed assisted suicide Bill will not become law. For the remainder of this Parliament, it is highly unlikely we will see any further attempts to introduce assisted suicide.

Labour’s Janet Daby is switching from pro to against. Says she had a troubled conscience after the last vote and has been swayed by the evidence: “The government’s own impact assessment…suggests that people from ethnic minority backgrounds may be more susceptible to coercion.”

A brilliant and detailed speech from @JoshFG, who is on the Health and Social Care Committee, explaining the extent of the crisis in palliative care and the danger of the bill’s auto-commencement clause:

Chilling. We cannot let this dangerous assisted suicide Bill pass. Please pray today as MPs debate and vote on the legislation.

More doctors come out against the assisted dying bill 👇
Prof Rees, a leading gastroenterology expert said: "This assisted dying bill is not safe. We urge MPs to listen to clinicians and healthcare professionals and to many major medical organisations, who have major concerns about this bill."

This is eye watering. Government now expecting up to 4,610 to apply in Year 1 and up to 10,428 in Year 10. If one year of additional data from other jurisdictions led to such a dramatic revision, what does this tell us about the trajectory? 1/
NEW: Govt's updated impact assessment on assisted dying bill has just QUADRUPLED the estimated number of people who would apply to die New 160-page official report has upper estimate for applicants (in first year of implementation) rocketing from: - 1,078 under the old Leadbeater bill - to 4,610 under the new Lauren Edwards bill Updates are largely down to adjusted methodology based on fresh international data Means lots of new info for MPs to chew over as bill gets 2nd reading on 11 Sept...
