Working to decarbonise the rail industry + some everyday complaining.

It is embarrassing and depressing that London, arguably the birthplace of modern capital markets is now barely functional... And yet no one in government seems to care...
This is huge. Potential sale of Monzo to NuBank in the region of £8-10bn. This would be amazing for early investors, employees and crowdfunders. It would provide some MUCH needed liquidity. However it would also be another example of a great UK tech company being scooped up by a foreign giant. However, without a functioning local capital market there is no alternative.

Seriously what is the point in the Lib Dems these days? What a bizarre policy - doesn't align with their previous environmental focus, or their (much longer ago) fiscal discipline angle. Just a vague "anti" party So sad to see as a former member bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr89…

UK rail industry, police and security services need to be extremely live to the risk of similar attacks in the UK But UK infra tends to be more secure, as a far more heavily used network we are more vulnerable to cascading impacts from even minor sabotage attempts
A major coordinated sabotage attack was just carried out against railway infrastructure in at more than 20 locations in the Netherlands. Large 2 meter-long metal pipes were deliberately attached to the tracks, triggering track-circuit and safety system failures by tricking the grid's computers into registering that the tracks were blocked. Some of the attacked railway lines include: Amersfoort – Zwolle
Zwolle – Leeuwarden Utrecht – Arnhem Arnhem – Zutphen Amersfoort–Deventer Gouda–Oudewater

Hey TfL What's going on with Hammersmith station these days? 2nd entrance almost never open these days. Combined with half the platforms being taped off when Piccadilly line closed it's causing severe crowding on platforms Need staff to start crowd control @TfL – at Hammersmith, London

How are we now at the point that some labour manifesto commitments are still considered "sacrosanct" but at the same time the Govt can be considering national rent controls with no democratic mandate whatsoever? – at Paddington, London
Breaking: Andy Burnham has said he is considering introducing rent controls as he prepares to announce cost of living support tomorrow that "could make a difference this year". The new prime minister was asked if his plans to cut the cost of living include rent controls and cutting energy bills and bus fares. He said: "We are looking at measures that could make a difference this year. So we are looking at all of those things but we will make more announcements tomorrow. We're just finalising the details. "It's premature to say it will be any one of those particular things. We just want to do some things that people will feel and feel quite quickly. It won't solve everything, it won't take all of the pressure off but it just shows the direction of travel and that we're serious about helping them out."

The hilarity of someone who's just ousted the current prime minister that their number 1 change will be to stop in-fighting🤣
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham lists 5 changes he will make as Labour leader 1. End infighting within the party 2. End point-scoring 3. Set out a direction that is "distinctively Labour" by "being us" 4. Return power to people across the entire UK 5. Be a "pro-business leader"

It may be an unpopular opinion for me to take, but this is a good article. I don't agree with all of it, but rail advocates need to have good responses to these arguments. Right to point out case for new stations is poor when so little density around new and existing stations

I disagree with using low wages/ skills as arguments as these follow from transport infra But in areas where journey time advantage of rail over road is poor adding new stations has real cost Many stns are already marginal, we shouldn't add more below average stns to the network

Good to see public engagement starting But what is and isn't said always interesting Wonder what treasury think of him criticising previous set up's focus on (DfT mandated) "financial efficiency"? Focus on 4% fare evasion when ridership still at 75% also interesting
SWR managing director Lawrence Bowman has kept quiet about his plans for one of the UK’s busiest railways. Not any more. Speaking to RAIL, He has set out his goals to @PaulClifton_ in an in-depth interview railmagazine.com/features-la…

Long thought TfL and other rail operators should stop messing around with local communities like this. Running a tube service to Theydon Bois costs a lot. If the local community won't support it by allowing building around the station then the service should be reduced
🌳 A proposal has been submitted for 150 houses in #TheydonBois on #GreenBelt. Green Belt protects the nature of our precious village. I will continue to do everything I can working with community groups & residents to oppose this development & to stand up for our community. 🌳

I love how good the post EGIP central Scotland rail service is Yet 10min patching allowance + generous station dwells is painful on Stirling to EDI service Will we ever be able to resurrect some of the promised JT improvements? @ScotRail @transcotland realtimetrains.co.uk/service…

Committment to investment in Northern transport always welcome... However hard to assess with no detail. Difficult not to be cynical this isn't "can kicking" when projects ready now like HS2 phase 2a, TRU full electrification and finishing MML wires still on back burner...
We’re setting a new growth plan that will boost living standards across the North. At the heart is Northern Powerhouse Rail, which will: ✅ reduce journey times, increase frequency and reliability ✅ connect people with better jobs ✅ improve access to new homes New skilled jobs will be the immediate benefit of the project, supported by a £570m fund to invest in training and skills. Stronger transport links between our major cities will help local communities thrive and harness the untapped potential of the region.
