"Employers aren't working people, they're companies."
Let's look at the facts, shall we?
🔹 99.85% of UK businesses are SMEs. Only 8,335 are big corporates.
🔹 4.7 million people run one-person businesses with no staff.
🔹 The rest are builders, hairdressers, café owners and shopkeepers, grafting 60-hour weeks to employ 12.2 million people.
They do the job by day, the books by midnight, and pay their staff before they pay themselves.
Not working people, @EmmaforWycombe?
They pay your salary and expenses…

All Martin is celebrating here is the Chancellor spending more taxpayer money...
True growth doesn't come from government handouts - it comes from cutting welfare, slashing business costs, and letting the private sector thrive so it can create jobs, boost wages, and lower taxes.
"I had a list of seven or eight things that I suggested to the Chancellor and I've been pretty gobsmacked that five of them were in the budget."
Martin Lewis, Founder of Money Saving Expert, reacts to Chancellor John Healey's first budget.

NEW: Chancellor John Healey is axing the £108 gas standing charge in today's Budget - but there is a massive catch.
The policy doesn't start until 2027 at the earliest, ignores January's looming £469 energy bill hike, and shifts the cost directly to unit prices.
The result? Millions of vulnerable households and pensioners with high energy needs will actually end up paying MORE.

VAT on top of fuel duty. A tax on a tax. You could slash it today, but for weeks you've chosen not to. Hard-working strivers deserve better.
I know people are worried about fuel prices. And I get it. You get to the pump, watch the numbers climb, and wonder why it's costing so much more than it used to.
The reality is that global events are pushing up costs, and families here at home are feeling the impact.
But I won't accept that there's nothing I can do to help.
That's why from today, you'll be able to see petrol and diesel prices on Google Maps, compare nearby stations and find the cheapest option before you fill up.
It's a small change, but if there's a practical way to help people keep more money in their pocket, I'll do it.
Kicking the can down the road… we can only dream of a government who gets serious on this crisis…
Andy Burnham will delay publishing a review of the welfare system until after the budget in response to concerns about the cost of the overhaul and the optics of releasing it sooner
A review by Alan Milburn, a former Labour health secretary, of the nearly one million young people not in education, employment or training (Neets), was due to be published at the end of next week
It will now be held back until November at the earliest to prevent it from overshadowing the prime minister’s first big fiscal event
John Healey, the chancellor, faces having to raise taxes to balance the books after a rise in the cost of government borrowing. It means that there will be no money for welfare reform in the budget
Milburn’s review is expected to recommend radical changes to the welfare system and an expansion of employment support to get young people off benefits. His interim report concluded that for every £1 spent on employment support, £25 was spent on benefits

District line Wimbledon branch: 10+ minute waits, last-minute cancellations, constant delays, and too few trains to the City. Getting from Chelsea & Fulham into the city shouldn't take longer than commuting from the Home Counties. It's a disgrace. @TfL @ChelFulhamBen
