Not jumping ship quite yet, but just in case...

Is it just me or do these birds look like they know the HR diagram really should use increasing temperature on the x axis
Due to technical issues (Mars was behind a building), I tried some DSOs on my planetary camera last night out of curiosity. Got a whole 3 minutes of Hubble's Variable Nebula (NGC 2261)—turned out not too bad for Bortle 9!
#Astrophotography – at New York, NY

ALT A telescope image of Hubble's Variable Nebula. Sitting in a field of orange and blue stars, the fan-shaped nebula spans about 10 to 15% of the height of the image. The outer edge of the nebula is light red, turning blue towards the center. The star illuminating the nebula rests at the tip as an orange dot of similar brightness to most other stars in the image.
Got around to processing my Saturn data from the other night, super happy with how it turned out!

2 hours of Jupiter last night, by far my best planetary imaging result! With a rotation period of 10 hours, motion is noticeable within only a few minutes

So grateful to have @ZJAyres book by my side as I prepare to start my grad school journey! Seeing such a resource in print and all the people on this platform sharing their excitement about it is beyond encouraging 😁

Can we get an astro-ph version of this?
Arxiv vs snarxiv is an online game that lets you guess whether you are looking at a real or randomly generated physics paper title.
No matter how much of an expert you believe you are, *everyone* is bad at this!

Totally don’t feel silly buying a nice filter to get a marginal improvement in image quality while I still use my 10 year old telescope with the crunchy azimuth motor that goes out of collimation when I breathe on it
Side note: daytime #astrophotography is super cool! (yes, I still envy radio astronomers for 24/7 DSOs, though)
Tried to record the Moon behind clouds, my computer had a more psychedelic interpretation than I originally intended:
High-z this high-z that, call me when JWST finds the lowest z galaxy; where’s my z=-20 infalling satellites?
Space photos and their explanations are so captivating and enriching, so why do these viral space photo accounts always misrepresent the origin, context, and meaning of their images?
