⚡Strangers in a Strange Land: Why the Indian Military Struggles to Connect in the Northeast; Counter-Insurgency is Fraught A concerned Naga pointed out some important factors which our Godi media would never talk about Indian soldiers. The Indian Army gave Modi govt a severe-dressing down!! 🔥 The "Agniveer Recruitments" weakened the Indian Army to such an extent we can't even imagine. > No one is ready to marry his daughter to Agniveers because of the elimination of pension scheme and short service span. > The Indian govt is compromising India's security. > Well trained Agniveers are being released when they are fully prepared to defend India. > And the most significant concern is that, currently almost all of India's neighboring countries are hostile towards it. Yet we are being forced to discharge well-trained Agniveer soldiers who are highly skilled in combat operations within regions like Kashmir and the North East's valley areas. Then how are we to deal with these hostile nations?

Together, these sources present numerous allegations, documented incidents, and historical accounts relating to human rights violations, excessive use of force, and other abuses associated with security operations in Naga areas. On 6 August 2026, the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) issued a press communiqué raising concerns over frisking and militarisation of civilian areas in Ukhrul and Kamjong by the Assam Rifles. According to the communiqué, these actions have caused fear and hardship among civilians already living under heightened insecurity. While this chronology focuses primarily on Naga areas, it also includes selected incidents elsewhere involving the Assam Rifles that are relevant to the broader discussion of accountability. This chronology is not exhaustive. Numerous other incidents remain undocumented, unpublished, inaccessible, or preserved only in classified archives and private collections. The record spans hundreds of official files, books, reports, archival collections, and eyewitness testimonies accumulated over nearly two centuries. 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐦 𝐑𝐢𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐬 The Assam Rifles is India's oldest paramilitary force. It traces its origins to 1835, when the British East India Company raised a small militia known as the Cachar Levy to protect colonial tea estates, trade routes, and administrative outposts in the North East. Over the following decades, the force was repeatedly reorganised and renamed as the Frontier Police, the Assam Military Police, and finally the Assam Rifles in 1917. During the British colonial period, the force was primarily employed to secure the frontier, conduct expeditions, escort officials, suppress armed resistance, and extend colonial administration into the hill regions. Following India's independence in 1947, it was retained by the Government of India, gradually expanded into the country's principal frontier and counter-insurgency force in the North East, and has since operated under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs while remaining under the operational command of officers of the Indian Army. Supporters regard the Assam Rifles as an essential force for border security and counter-insurgency. At the same time, human rights organisations, civil society groups, and affected communities have, over several decades, documented allegations of unlawful killings, torture, sexual violence, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, and other abuses during security operations, particularly in areas governed by the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA). The chronology below compiles these incidents from published and archival sources. Sources: Government of India, Assam Rifles official history; Lt. Gen. V.K. In the case of the creation of #Nagaland state or the 16-Point Agreement, claiming discursive dominance is anchored in the subtexts, referring to the fact that it is ” essentially an interim measure”, positing that it “in no way closes the door for further political negotiation”, and standing for “consolidation of contiguous #Naga areas”. On the other hand, the Naga hardliners treat the creation of the state calling it to be “interim nature” is a “delusion”. Because it is a surrender of the historical rights of the #Nagas. Here, room for “further political negotiation” aligns with the posture of the hardliners. Because Naga self-determination led by hardliners has spilled into conflict even after 1963. And it is substantiated by the Government of #India’s talk with the hardliners, not with any existing state government, even today, reinforcing the stand that the solution to the Naga political problem through the creation of the state is not final. ⚡Smoke and Mirrors in Manipur: Why the Capture of Sinai Camp is a Pre-Planned Illusion #Opinion: What the BJP-led Manipur government has done on Mt. #Sinai is a calculated move designed strictly for public relations, portraying themselves as a proactive administration. Consider their recent alleged gimmick regarding the capture of the Sinai camp. The government claimed that out of 17 Kuki militants found there, only one is a member of a Suspension of Operations (SoO) group while the rest are not—justifying the seizure of the camp to be handed over to the CRPF. They only step in and take action after the camp's primary occupants have already been relocated. The government possesses comprehensive intelligence: they know what is happening, how and why it is unfolding, and how to manage it. They receive real-time reports on Kuki militant activities, yet they deliberately wait until a camp is cleared out before making a move. How cleverly orchestrated! This points to a pre-arranged understanding between certain factions and the government—especially given that Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen’s husband serves as the chief of the KNF-P. In essence, the government and these figures are operating as one, with the entire operation allegedly orchestrated by Nemcha Kipgen. Without such an arrangement, these militants would have been vulnerable; instead, a staged deal was struck. Notably, the 18 captured individuals are inexperienced new recruits lacking basic combat or firing skills, while the seasoned fighters were safely transferred elsewhere beforehand. Why were these unskilled recruits left behind then? Because it followed a strict directive from their supreme leadership. Among the Kuki community, absolute obedience to leadership is the norm, driven by strong internal unity. Their leaders have explicitly instructed members to withhold the truth to keep the underlying reality concealed. Therefore, I urge the Naga and Meitei communities not to be fooled or misled by the capture of the Sinai camp. It is an empty, hollow gesture—a completely staged act. The Manipur government is simply throwing dust in our eyes. —By concerned Naga @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @YKhemchandSingh @KipgenNemcha @LDikho51792 @CMO_MANIPUR_ @LokBhavManipur @ANI @thewire_in @ThePrintIndia @IndiaToday @IndiaTodayNE @republic @IndianExpress @thecaravanindia @DeccanHerald @htTweets @the_hindu @newslaundry @newsreel_asia @karishmahasnat @rajkbhat @tweets_prateekg @NilakshiRabhaIN @nit_set @SumirDH @jeegujja @hornbilltv @Nagaland_Post @NELiveTV @ukhrultimes @meiteiheritage @EastMojo @LIANGMAIPOST @Makaam271yr @NewsNltv @ramindesai @LevinaNeythiri @vijaita @TheBlueHills49

⚡Happy Mera Hou Chongba 🎇 Mera Hou Chongba (also known as Mera Waayungba or Mera Thaomei Thaanba) is an ancient, state-level cultural festival of Manipur, India, that celebrates solidarity, communal harmony, and the enduring brotherhood between the hill tribes and the valley communities. It is historically the only festival in the state where all indigenous communities—including the Meitei people and various Naga and Kuki-Chin tribes gather to participate together. Core Meanings and Significance • Hill-Valley Brotherhood: It represents the symbolic "unbreakable umbilical cord" connecting the indigenous tribes of the hills and the Meitei people of the valley. • Historical Continuity: The festival dates back to ancient times—specifically to the reign of king Nongda Lairen Pakhangba in the 1st century AD (33 AD)—serving as a historic tradition where rulers and subjects from diverse ethnic backgrounds gathered. • Peace and Communal Harmony: Designated as a state-level festival, it acts as a vital platform for fostering peace, trust, and mutual respect among different ethnic groups despite regional or linguistic differences. • Cultural Exchange: The event showcases diverse traditional attire, folk dances, indigenous games, and martial arts from various tribal communities In modern times, the Government of Manipur formally organizes it as a state-level event to actively bridge regional divides and promote peacebuilding across the state #Festival #culture #heritage #history #brotherhood #Peace #CommunalHarmony @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @CMO_MANIPUR_ @LokBhavManipur @ANI @thewire_in @ThePrintIndia @IndiaToday @IndiaTodayNE @republic @IndianExpress @thecaravanindia @DeccanHerald @htTweets @the_hindu @newslaundry @newsreel_asia @karishmahasnat @rajkbhat @tweets_prateekg @NilakshiRabhaIN @nit_set @SumirDH @jeegujja @hornbilltv @Nagaland_Post @NELiveTV @ukhrultimes @meiteiheritage @EastMojo @LIANGMAIPOST @Makaam271yr @NewsNltv @ramindesai @LevinaNeythiri @vijaita @TheBlueHills49

Happy Mera Wayungba to our indigenous hill brothers and sisters! May this festival of solidarity bring the people of the hills and valley closer together and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and unity. Mera Wayungba, also known as “Mera Thaomei Thaanba,” commemorates the age-old traditions shared by the Meitei and Tangkhuls. According to this tradition, the younger brother (Meitei), having descended to the valley, signals his well-being to his elder brother (Tangkhul), who lives in the hills. This cherished ritual celebrates the enduring bond between the Meitei and Tangkhul communities. Video Courtesy: raj thoudam

⚡#Opinion || 》》》 Something sinister seems to be going on under the SoO Agreement Finding a fraction of the SoO cadre in designated Camp Sinai means the cadre are in the jungle, various villages, and Kangpokpi town. As the SoO Agreement has expired in September 2026, their activities and armed presence are illegal and should be rounded up. Secondly, finding 17 unlisted personnel (not in the list submitted by KNO and KLA) means that there are many foreign personnel operating along with KNO and KLA and enjoying the sanctuary provided by security forces in the SoO camps. Since verification of cadre has hardly been carried out, it is highly possible that the security forces have been transporting foreign fighters in their security vehicles across the state. This, if true, would be a terrible embarrassment for MHA. It also points to the nonchalant manner of implementation of the revised ground rules under the aegis of MHA. Third, the absence of many SoO cadre from Sinai Camp amounts to a violation of the revised ground rules. It points to weaknesses in the implementation mechanism, as one of the primary requirements of the revised ground rules is to keep cadre within designated camps and keep deposited weapons under lock in the CRPF/BSF camps. Implementation of both these conditions has failed miserably. It is these two big weaknesses in the implementation of revised ground rules that the SoO cadre are exploiting. Further, the lapses in the implementation of the SoO agreement, where the cadre are fed and housed in designated camps and are allowed free movement with weapons, have made political analysts and thinkers believe that there could be a deliberate evil design behind the non-serious attitude of implementation of revised ground rules by tacitly allowing the SoO cadre to extract vengeance on the tribes the Kukis hate just before the rumoured conclusion of a political settlement. Fourth, right now there is no SoO Agreement as it has expired around the first week of September 2026. It means that everything is illegal now. The GoI should immediately close down all designated camps and take up military action against the illegal elements as the SoO Agreement has expired and lapsed as the outfits are continuing to engage in illegal activities. Fifth, already the indigenous people have accused the security forces and GoI of carrying out proxy wars using SoO cadre against them. Given what has happened recently in the sudden increase in violence and the ongoing free movement of the SoO cadre who are killing innocent civilians in ambushes and village attacks besides indulging in indescribable barbaric acts, extension of the SoO Agreement should be ruled out completely. The GoI should not forget that the people of Manipur, especially the Meiteis, are demanding the termination of the SoO Agreement as it appears to be facilitating the attacks under the sanctuary given by security forces. The GoI should recall history that the Kukis are nomadic and latecomers to Manipur and the more recent ones are illegal migrants to be classified as foreigners. The primary reason why Census operations of 2027 for Manipur have been deferred is on account of the demand made by native people to have the NRC first before the Census exercise. This demand has been conceded by the GoI and the Census in respect of Manipur has been deferred. All these are sufficient grounds that the SoO Agreement has not worked and should not be extended under any circumstances. Therefore, the question of extension of the SoO Agreement should not arise. ~ A concerned Naga " The Dawn Tantak" News Report @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @CMO_MANIPUR_ @LokBhavManipur @ANI @thewire_in @ThePrintIndia @IndiaToday @IndiaTodayNE @republic @IndianExpress @thecaravanindia @DeccanHerald @htTweets @karishmahasnat @rajkbhat @tweets_prateekg @NilakshiRabhaIN @nit_set @SumirDH @jeegujja @NELiveTV @meiteiheritage @NewsNltv @ramindesai @LevinaNeythiri @vijaita @TheBlueHills49

#OPINION: "According to a letter sent by the present Government of #Manipur to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the state government at the time, led by the #Congress, recommended that the Central Government restore ‘Any Kuki Tribes’ ‘for political reasons’. The government note states: ‘After 47 years of deletion since 1956, Any #Kuki Tribes was restored on 8 January 2003 as Entry 18, now Entry 33, on the then State Government’s recommendation for political reasons.’ The amendment enacted in 2002 took effect in 2003, when ‘#AnyKukiTribes’ became Entry 18 (now Entry 33) on Manipur’s Scheduled Tribes list. The Manipur Cabinet later acknowledged what it considered an error, passing resolutions on 19 October 2018 and 2 January 2023. In a letter dated 8 February 2023, it asked the Ministry to delete AKT." - Chung Thadou ukhrultimes.com/kukiland-to-…
