I am thoroughly exhausted by the intellectual gymnastics and extraordinary moral cowardice that emerge whenever Africans and people of African descent raise the question of reparations for slavery and colonialism. Every time we discuss the transatlantic slave trade, someone rushes to remind us that Europeans were not the only people who enslaved Africans. There was the Arab slave trade, they say. Africans sold other Africans, they insist, as though they have just unearthed some extraordinary historical revelation capable of absolving Europe of centuries of organized human exploitation. And what exactly is the argument here? That because several people participated in a crime, none of them should be held accountable? That the involvement of an African merchant somehow diminished the suffering of the African who was sold? What a spectacular bankruptcy of moral reasoning. Yes, some Africans participated in the slave trade. Some African monarchs, merchants and elites profited from the trafficking of human beings. These are historical realities that deserve serious examination. We can even discuss the Afro-Brazilian returnees who settled along the West African coast. Some were formerly enslaved Africans who had obtained their freedom in Brazil, returned to Africa and subsequently participated in the very trade that had once deprived them of their own liberty. Joaquim d’Almeida, for example, was enslaved in Brazil, obtained his freedom, returned to West Africa and became a slave trader. Francisco Félix de Souza, a Brazilian-born merchant, built an immense commercial enterprise around the trafficking of enslaved Africans from Ouidah. We can examine the royal families, merchant dynasties and political institutions that benefited from this commerce. We can investigate the fortunes accumulated, the properties acquired and the privileges transmitted across generations. I have absolutely no objection to holding African historical actors accountable for their participation in slavery. But now that we have identified some of the sellers, can we please return to the people who were SOLD? Can we talk about their descendants? Can we talk about the millions of human beings whose bodies became commercial merchandise, whose children were born into captivity and whose descendants were subsequently denied access to land, education, property, political equality and economic opportunity for centuries? The participation of an African king in the slave trade does not absolve the European merchant who purchased human beings, the shipowner who transported them, the banker who financed the enterprise, the plantation owner who extracted their labor or the governments that legalized and protected the entire system for centuries. And then comes my favorite exhibition of historical illiteracy, the claim that Europeans today cannot be expected to pay for the sins of their ancestors. How convenient! Apparently, nations can inherit the wealth of their ancestors, the institutions of their ancestors, the territories acquired by their ancestors, the commercial advantages secured by their ancestors and the accumulated prosperity produced by centuries of exploitation. Oh they can even compensate the slave owners for freeing their slaves. But the moment we discuss the obligations attached to that inheritance, history suddenly becomes irrelevant. You can inherit the estate, but apparently the debts buried beneath its foundations must remain with the dead. What an extraordinary understanding of justice!

Australia says China is carrying out “the biggest conventional military buildup since World War II.” Beijing’s answer is simple: Yes, China is building the military strength necessary to defend its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. That is what happens when a civilization remembers what weakness cost it. If China had possessed overwhelming military strength in the 1930s, Asia would not have been burned across by Japanese fascism while foreign powers stood by, calculated, bargained, and watched. And the irony of Australia lecturing China about military power is almost too perfect. A settler state born through colonial conquest now treats an Asian country’s ability to defend itself as inherently suspicious—while hosting expanding U.S. forces, nuclear-submarine deployments, and an alliance architecture aimed squarely at China. So when Beijing says: “stop making irresponsible remarks,” the message is not difficult to understand. China will not apologize for being strong enough to prevent history from happening to it again.

A young blonde woman with an American accent in Israel says that all the Arabs must be kicked out of Gaza because it is "our land" since "God commanded us to take it." The Palestinians should be kicked out to any other Arab state, she continues, except Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, "because they are ours." "Or we will kill them," she adds Can we stop pretending that this is a marginal view in Israel? That these are the comments of a fringe minority? They are not. Israel has been on this path for quite some time. Western governments know it fully - yet they continue to fund and enable Israel's genocidal policies.

I have lived in China since 1995. I saw the poverty with my own eyes. Then I watched it disappear. This chart going viral today tells the story > China extreme poverty: 91.3% in 1984. Zero by 2022. No colour revolution. No IMF lectures. No NGOs. Planning, roads, factories, schools. And the West still calls it a "failed system"….

Burkina Faso Overhauls Its Curriculum to Reclaim African History Burkina Faso is officially overhauling its national curriculum to strip out colonial biases, replacing terms like "explorers" and "conquerors" with "invaders" and "spies" in history, geography, and citizenship textbooks. The reform introduces 54 new lessons from primary through secondary school that drop Eurocentric benchmarks in favor of indigenous political structures, local resistance movements, and African scientific contributions. By emphasizing that African societies existed and thrived long before European contact, this initiative plans to correct decades of distorted narratives and reclaim the continent's true history.

BREAKING: Ed Sheeran's "LOOP” US tour has lost its three remaining opening acts – FINNEAS, Lukas Graham, and Aaron Rowe – after they withdrew Tuesday in the wake of Macklemore being removed from the lineup over his pro-Palestine remarks. Sheeran's own backing band, Beoga, has also announced it is leaving the tour. On social media, FINNEAS wrote, “Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed … I stand with Palestine and its people.” Aaron Rowe noted in his statement, “I cannot stand by and allow billionaires to use their position of power to silence the rightful voices of those who speak up against Israeli genocide and who highlight the savage murder of children.” Beoga wrote, “We are Irish people who understand colonialism. As founding members of the Irish Artists for Palestine Movement, we are committed activists for justice and will continue to be.” Lukas Graham stated, “It’s hard to watch families in other parts of the world burying the people they love … Money doesn’t give you the right to own the conversation.”

Meanwhile on Chinese TV, they're explaining why America's economics Nobel Prizes don't add up to anything. Zhang Weiwei: every country that modernized needed a first pot of gold -- the starting capital that gets an economy growing. "The West got theirs through violence, war, the slave trade. Ruthless plunder, ruthless slaughter." China earned its own -- "through its own effort and sacrifice." US-trained economist Wen Yi adds the punchline: Western models literally can't explain where that starting capital comes from. "Economics assumes it's given -- by God." Which is why copying the Western model was never on offer for the Global South: "Tell developing nations to copy you -- no pot of gold!"

The Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel, Rabbi David Yosef said today that the Palestinian people do not exist, do not have rights, that it is good that Gaza was destroyed and that with the help of God, all of Gaza and the West Bank will be Jewish soon. The Jewish religion is being used as a tool of genocide. This is not a fringe rabbi. This is the most important rabbi in Israel.

🇧🇷🇨🇺🚨 BREAKING: Lula just said what the world has been thinking. "Stop this damned blockade on Cuba and let the Cuban people live their lives." Cuba has problems. But they are Cuba's problems. Not Lula's. Not Trump's. Not the empire's. The US has punished Cuba for decades. Sanctions. Blockades. Regime change attempts. None of it worked. Cubans are still standing. Still surviving. Still waiting for the world to let them breathe. Lula is not begging. He's demanding. The blockade is not policy. It's cruelty. And the world is tired of watching. Spread the truth. Free Cuba. Not from its leaders. From the blockade. Let the Cuban people live.

Replying to @WhiteHouse
This video beggars belief. The United States White House appears to be run by 13 year old boys whose mummy collects them from school and who then sit and masturbate while watching violent fantasy films. Children in men's bodies who see the World in terms of video games and Marvel comics. That the White House would post this is possibly the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen from any Government ever. xitter.cf/WhiteHouse/status/2029…
