Yesterday's conversation with my student: Me: Have you been signed off for both venepuncture and cannulation? Student: Yes I have and both were with you. And you are strict so I'm very confident! Me: 😊 That's great! Well done. #clinicaleducator #medicalschool #uknurse

I thought he was going to stop at "strict" but I was glad to hear the sentence after! 😅 I believe in nipping the bud early. The minor wrong steps or habits in any procedure can build up, transferred over to clinical practice. and can later on cause harm to the patient.

So yes, I am strict where it is necessary. But mind you I am also very friendly outside assessments, I promise 😊🤞. #clinicaleducator #medicalschool #uknurse

Unfortunately, nurses only get their venepuncture study day after they get a job in the NHS. And with the ever omnipresent staff shortage, sometimes they are either delayed or rescheduled in order to make sure the ward is fully staffed.
Ward want me to do bloods on 10 patients this morning because phlebs haven’t turned up and apparently none of the 6 nurses on the ward are trained to do the most basic of clinical skills. That’s in addition to a 16 pt ward round. The NHS is not fit for purpose, top to bottom.

If you want nurses to be independent from day one, give them all the skills training they need for that unit before they start. Then there is no need to choose between skills training or complete staffing.

The #RCNStrike has begun. This is for all of us and generations to come. We will not be silent. We will not see patients suffer. We will not let the NHS disappear on our watch. Share if you're behind us. #FairPayForNursing #SafeStaffingSavesLives

Woke up today in the middle of a dream where it was announced a general election was happening on the 7th of June! People were celebrating to finally choose the right leaders for the country. What a dream! I felt so happy too. – at Welwyn Garden City, East

Why won't you negotiate @RishiSunak? Remember your duty to the people. At the end of all this, it won't be your billionaire buddies who will be the final judge. It will be God who sees all your intention and actions. Make the right decision, not the easy one. – at Welwyn Garden City, East
PM @RishiSunak claims he will bring down NHS waiting lists, but won't get around the table with the NHS's largest workforce. Tell him to get serious about #FairPayForNursing because #SafeStaffingSavesLives: bit.ly/3svwR3B

Nursing pay has consistently fallen behind other professions. By continuing to undervalue nursing, governments undervalue the health of the nation. Governments can choose to pay nursing fairly to protect the public. #FairPayForNursing

Enough is enough! You can support nurses by changing your social media banners to one of these. Together we can make change happen. 💪 #FairPayforNursing
Nice to see you again in person @DeirdreIWallace. Bit of fresh air, coffee aroma, and a lot of chat 😊.

Congratulations to my former university for yet another 100% passing rate in the Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam, with 8 national topnotchers.
Last October I said I would turn on the heating on the first week of November. It's November. I'm in layers, socks and bonnet at home. #CostOfLivingCrisis
Lovely to see former colleagues today. We used to all be in light blue Band 5 uniform and now we all have senior roles.

Spending my last day as PDN with what I do best, teaching new junior nurses. It has been a pleasure working in this role. Thank you to my bosses for the opportunity.
