Same surgeon. Same surgery. $15,000 instead of $40,000.
One phone call to care navigation before scheduling made that happen.
When employees buy healthcare like informed consumers, premiums stop going up. That is the whole strategy.
I don't know why I people let health insurance companies rob them year after year. They make 15% on the healthcare you buy (like surgeries, treatments and prescriptions) but they also set the price on what you get charged for that healthcare, so do you think they want up or down
ICHRAs are almost NEVER a good idea.
So if you’re company is looking at moving to this I’d ask the following:
1. How much will my actual out-of-pocket costs go up once we lose the safety net of a group PPO?
3. Does your proposed allowance cover the real cost of family coverage, or does it trigger the ACA "family glitch"?
2. What local marketplace options exist for my family and me, and will our doctors still be in-network?
Why do people who don’t make content feel like they should judge those that do?
Does it make them feel better?
Great dental and pet insurance do not fix a health plan that goes up every year.
Employees feel the health plan in every paycheck. Fix that first. Everything else is a bonus on top of a foundation that either works or it does not.
If we stopped letting insurance companies decide what we pay for healthcare, we would reduce the cost of health insurance.
Problem is...Obamacare locked in a 15% profit for them. So if they want happy shareholders, they need premiums to go up.
Health insurance is over $26k a year for a family. This is not going to fix itself. We’ve given insurance companies way too much power.
Good news is you can take it back and create a non-profit plan for your company. I teach how for free every other Wednesday
Most benefit brokers had a previous relationship with their clients.
They got lucky with timing and put their client in the safe status quo.
Their account manager took over and they are the real reason most stay doing the same thing.
Which is usually screwing their employees
2 things sold to you as a good deal but they are the opposite:
1. Association Pool Health Plan - these are typically more risk which means higher claims and higher premiums.
2. Broker Branded PBM- These have hidden fees built in that are making a ton of money for your broker.
I’ve learned most brokers are just trying to take over what your company is doing and replace your broker (and get the commission checks sent to them).
They don’t want to change anything or look for improvements that will be impactful.
I don’t see much value there.
Do you?
