Thank you for this breakdown @WinningintheUSA It was truly a historic run. I believe it will open the door for many more to follow. I am in no way finished - just prepping for the next season were this work will continue on a different front.
🌾 Jake Merrick’s 2026 Governor Run: The Little Campaign That Shocked Oklahoma Politics In a Republican gubernatorial primary dominated by millionaires, self-funders, PACs, consultants, and establishment networks, Jake Merrick pulled off something few expected. 📊 The Results: • Finished 4th statewide with roughly 14.9% of the vote (~54,000 votes). • Landed behind Drummond (~26.3%), Mazzei (~26.0%), and Keating (~18.5%). • Finished ahead of former House Speaker Charles McCall (~12.2%) and the rest of the field. • More than 400,000 Republicans cast ballots in the race. What makes that noteworthy isn’t just where he finished. It’s how he got there. 📈 Polls consistently had Merrick in the single digits for much of the race. Early surveys often showed him around 5-7%, trailing the better-funded candidates. Even late polling generally placed him around 10-12%. Yet on Election Day, he outperformed expectations and built one of the strongest grassroots showings in the field. 💰 The Money Gap Was Massive While other candidates spent millions, Merrick operated on what was essentially campaign pocket change by comparison. • Roughly $80,000-$82,000 raised and spent. • Opponents were spending millions. • Mike Mazzei alone poured more than $10 million of personal money into the race. Merrick rejected the traditional big-money model, instead campaigning on principle over politics, constitutional government, faith, family, freedom, property rights, child welfare reform, and anti-establishment conservatism. 👤 Who Is Jake Merrick? Many voters know him as a former Oklahoma State Senator, but his background extends well beyond politics. • Former State Senator for District 22. • Master of Divinity graduate. • College professor. • Business owner. • Pastor. • Radio host. Throughout the campaign, Merrick presented himself as a candidate unwilling to compromise with special interests, even arguing that his previous political setbacks came from refusing to play the insider game. 🗺️ Where His Message Hit Home His strongest performances came in rural and exurban counties where grassroots conservative voters remain highly engaged. Some standout areas included: • Major County (+21%) • Grady County (+12%) • McClain County (+3%) • Garfield County (+1.7%) • Canadian County (+1.5%) Those counties became proof that motivated voters can sometimes overcome financial disadvantages. ⚠️ The Limits The same factors that fueled his grassroots appeal also created obstacles. Merrick lacked the statewide name recognition, institutional backing, and financial resources available to the top-tier candidates. Urban and metro areas, particularly Oklahoma County, proved far more difficult terrain. 🔥 Why It Still Matters With roughly 14.5% of the vote, Merrick’s supporters now represent one of the most important voting blocs heading into the August 25 runoff. Their votes could play a major role in shaping the final outcome. Regardless of who ultimately wins the nomination, Merrick’s campaign demonstrated something many political professionals dislike hearing: A candidate with limited resources, a clear message, and a motivated grassroots base can still outperform expectations in Oklahoma. In an era dominated by million-dollar campaigns, that’s a story worth paying attention to. #OKPolitics #OKGOV #JakeMerrick #Grassroots #Oklahoma

Hey guys! Just FYI - I am fully focused on establishing a new routine and generating much needed income for my family. Social media is not a high priority for me at the moment. However, I will be coming on live later this evening to address some of the “concerns” and questions that some people are throwing out there. It’s incredible what people assume when you don’t respond on their timeline. Right now, my life has shifted and I am drilling down on some statewide projects that will be launched soon and that I’m very excited about. I’m meeting in person with numerous people having critical conversations about what the runoff and general will look like. I’m picking up signs across multiple counties. I’m cleaning up our property after the wind blew over two trees and scattered limbs everywhere. I will popping in here periodically, so if you don’t hear from me in a few hours, don’t assume I’m now a Russian spy or that I have sold my soul to the devil 🤦‍♂️.

I am so fascinated by regenerative farming. Improving crop yields and maximizing small acreage - this, I believe, is the future of local, healthy food production.
Looking to improve crop yield? Understanding the importance of soil health is vital. Here's a look at how regenerative farming practices that nurture topsoil and its microbiome can improve crop growth 🌱 buff.ly/45rCACp #nematodes #pheromones #regenerativeagriculture

Well I didn’t really change my perspective. I’ve always thought it was necessary to have a healthy relationship with them. It was confirmed as I was able to sit and talk with a few tribal leaders. They are eager to have strong compacts and work with the state

As I look to the run off, these are some of my top priorities I hope the next governor will give attention to: - Thorough agency audits - Top down DHS reform - Top down DOC reform - JNC reform - Ending mail order abortion pills - Work with legislature to fund more mental health beds - Community engagement to build strong families - Conservative Board of Ed that prioritizes local control What would you add?

One important perspective I gained in this run is the great opportunity we have in Oklahoma to work with the tribes. There is much work to be done here, but I am hopeful for a day where we can leverage our unique relationships with our Native American neighbors to the benefit of both the state and the tribes. All of my engagement with tribal leaders have been positive. I hope for more opportunities to sit with them and talk about how we can work together.

Wow! What a year! This has been! We have, without a doubt, been stretched in so many ways, but our faith and strength has compounded. After driving around 100K miles to 77 counties, running 386 miles down route 66, speaking at almost 300 events, and meeting thousands of Oklahomans, we took a couple of days off to recharge, refocus and pray about the next season. And we are excited about what's to come! As it goes in politics, there are endless rumors, speculations, and just blatant lies. I'm pretty immune to them by now. People are going to talk - especially on X - but few talk directly to me. Those who reach out for clarity, usually get a pretty quick answer straight from me. Those who don't reach out, never wanted clarity to begin with. They like the drama. Personally, I try to minimize it. Let me clarify a few things. No, I haven't made any back room deals. No, I didn't start a Go Fund Me to pay off my mortgage (nor did I have anything to do it). No, I wasn't recruited to split the vote. No, I haven't endorsed anyone yet. No, Oklahoma isn't doomed. Yes, I'm staying in the fight. Yes, I will be working across the state on critical cultural reform - those things government can't do. Yes, Oklahoma's best days are ahead.

Let me address merit pay for teachers... and please read the entire post. (spoiler: I'm not adamantly for or against it. I value the insight from teachers who have largely been speaking up in opposition to it, and always promise to listen - especially to those with boots on the ground.) I know this is a big concern for many teachers across the state due to the factors outside the teacher's control. This is a legitimate concern, and one that should be considered. Personally, I always leaned more toward merit pay - when multiple factors are used to reduce bias from any single metric. I have never believed is should be tied directly to testing or purely from student academic outcomes. The reason I have appreciated the merit pay idea is because it is a free-market approach that is effectively used in almost every other industry to accelerate good performance. In some states, connecting pay to performance has been shown to: - Motivate stronger performance and professional growth. - Help attract/retain effective teachers, especially in challenging schools. - Reward excellence and improves overall workforce quality through better recruitment and retention. I also understand the cons can include: - Can encourage "teaching to the test" (which I would like to move away from). - Evaluation subjectivity or unfairness. - Implementation complexity and cost; mixed research on long-term student gains (positive but modest in many meta-analyses). I would appreciate further dialogue with teachers on this subject. Is there a way to create a model that teachers could be excited about? One that could create opportunity for advancement and better pay? What would this look like for special ed teachers? Of course we have the Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Program to offer incentives. Teachers, how do you think this is working? If you haven't noticed, my approach is very much about developing policy from the ground up! I know many might be used to that, and it causes many to assume their voice and opinion on an issue doesn't matter. Not the case with me. Your voice matters. If teachers don't want this, we have to listen.

People often ask how I’m qualified to manage a twelve billion dollar budget. The truth is, I wouldn’t be managing it alone — no one person should. A state budget that large is far too complex for any single individual to handle personally. My job as governor is to assemble the right team: top financial experts, economists, and seasoned administrators who live and breathe these numbers every day. Importantly, they will also deeply understand the proper role of government — prioritizing the Constitution, preserving individual freedom, and limiting government overreach. That’s exactly how great leaders operate. Henry Ford built one of the most successful companies in history, yet when challenged in court about his lack of “book knowledge,” he famously replied that he didn’t clutter his mind with facts he could summon experts for. He had a row of buttons on his desk — push one, and the right person appeared with the answer. That’s smart leadership. Know what you don’t know, then surround yourself with people who do. That’s the approach I’ll bring to the governor’s office — strong vision paired with the best possible advisors.
