Winning isn't what makes you feel good. Growth makes you feel good.
Sometimes they are the same thing. When you achieve something for the first time, it's growth. You've reached a new level. The win feels satisfying. But when you do it for the tenth time (or the hundredth time), it can feel stale. You're still winning, but you're not necessarily growing.
The secret is not to worry about winning, but rather to focus on growing. And the most straightforward way to grow is to learn something. If you're ever feeling stuck, go learn something new. Read, write, think, learn, repeat.
When you're learning, you're growing.

ON-BALL DEFENSE:
You must teach players to be hungry for the ball. If they are not plotting to get the ball or making life HARD for the ballhandler, they are NOT playing DEFENSE. Days of defenders just shuffling along with ball handlers & calling it defense are over. #DrDefense

When you're in the lab, working on your "bag" this offseason, remember...
- 46.5% of your shots come with no dribble (catch and shoot)
- 22% of your shots come with 1 or 2 dribbles.
And don't forget, the more dribbles you take, the lower your shooting percentage gets.
No Dribbles - 1.19 Points Per Shot
1 Dribble - 1.10 Points Per Shot
2 Dribbles - 1.01 Points Per Shot
3+ Dribbles - 0.97 Points Per Shot
With a side note, layups are by far the most efficient shots in basketball, so use that dribble to get to the rim if you need to!
But becoming a complete scorer isn’t about collecting more moves.
It’s about developing the shooting, ball control, footwork, decision-making, and finishing skills to create the right shot without wasting movement or dribbles.
This data was taken from the 25-26 NBA season. It barely changes season to season.
