I think more people need to experience what it's like 'driving' with Tesla FSD active. I know a lot of people who are sceptical of self driving. My mother is one of them despite her being driven around by FSD anytime I’m 'driving' Today was the first time she 'drove' the car, I let her take it to the store without me being in the car. It was a completely different experience for her being alone in the car. Nothing else was different. The car once again drove her somewhere with no one touching the steering wheel or pedals. She never really appreciated it prior to this. It's as if she saw herself as a passenger and me as the driver. But in reality, we are both passengers when FSD is engaged. The only difference is I'm paying attention, which likely won't be a requirement in the next few years.

I would love an option on my Tesla for “just park anywhere” Anytime I choose parking lot, the car always tries to find me a spot near the front. I actually prefer near the back, but anywhere would be fine instead of the car driving through a half empty parking lot, to the full front of the parking lot, just to turn around and drive halfway back through the lot. @Tesla @elonmusk

This needs more context to feel important. The AGI benchmark is different depending who and when you ask. What was believed to be AGI several years ago is mostly achieved already, but what people have recently claimed as the definition still feels long away. Quite a few people believe that AGI has to be able to do literally anything a human can. Personally I'm waiting for some model to basically start a business and operate on it's own, generating revenue, and running long term without human involvement. Maybe something like accounting. That would feel like a major step forward
JUST IN: OpenAI says it will achieve AGI by the end of this year.

I don't really like the idea of people likely needing to be on this for life, since regaining when when stopping the drug is almost certain based on statistics so far. However, a huge hope I have for this is naturally lowering childhood obesity rates in the future. If parents use this to get to healthy weights, even if they continually use it. Their kids should pick up on the good habits of smaller portions. If parents aren't going to snack foods when watching movies, or at least limiting it to a small bowl of chips/popcorn, then the kids might never learn those habits.

Buying bulk is definitely the way to go. Even if you can't finish something yourself. See if a friend could also save some money. My friend and I sometimes split a butchers box, which is a local deal on a variety of meat at our butcher. Great value.

My biggest recommendation for young people who want to learn how to cook is to learn the recipe for one dish they really like. Whether that's a restaurant style entree or classic home cooking. Keep making it over and over until you get it right. Then learn another.

Same with chips, popcorn, fast food, restaurants, etc. Every luxury that people grew up with has somehow become a necessity in the eyes of many. Some people have the idea that snack foods need to be plentiful, ready for any occassion and priced so that that everyone can do that. The worst thing is that many of these things are the kind of thing that cause you to want more. Fast food and snacks don't satiate you. You eat them and want more. People get such large portions and they'll still be hungry later. Soda makes you want more soda or other sweets. The average BMI is already hovering just below obese, close enough that you can basically say the average person is obese. This will either get even worse or the next generation will likely be lifetime users of Ozempic.
Yes. Soda was a luxury until the mid-2000s. It was something you'd have for family movie night on Fridays and birthdays. Prior to the ~90s, it was even more rare. Drinking soda with every meal wasn't normal until fairly recently. It is a small luxury but a luxury.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
US per capita carbonated soft drink consumption rose from 10.8 gallons in 1947 to a peak of 53 gallons in 1998, contradicting claims it was a luxury reserved for special occasions until the mid-2000s. ers.usda.gov/amber-waves/20… businessinsider.com/americans-are-…

Managing your weight is so much more than just looks. It's discipline and it gives an insight on lifestyle. Someone overweight is some combination of inactive and overeating. Some or all of it is due to little or no self control with food, or they rarely move when unnecessary.
Men’s top don’t-want in a spouse is “overweight” by a 2.5x margin over the next item. Women’s top don’t-want is “rude” by a 1.5x margin. Men’s rejection filter is dominantly physical. Women’s is dominantly character. Both sexes’ top wants are identical though: kind and funny. (Keeper data on millions of stated preference clauses.)

One of most successful diet hacks. Premade homemade meals. Many can also be stored frozen. People who have consistent meals ready are not only more likely to stick to their diet, they are less likely to resort to junk food when they don't feel like cooking.
Just a heads up: If your kitchen looks like this every Sunday….the odds you’re fat 6-12 months from now drop by roughly 99.99% Do with this info what you wish!

AI has allowed for vibe coding, but in any serious application of programming, the best coders are using AI to speed up their process. This will lead to senior staff having little to no need for junior staff. On top of that, if AI gets rid of the bulk of customer support roles and any sort of assistant role that is mostly virtual, what jobs are opening for those people. But the biggest argument I have is that even if new jobs were created by this new tech, how long before AI can do those jobs too? at the rate that AI is improving, it won't be long before positions that handle complex tasks are also under threat. Previous advances in tech, like robotic arms in factories, were different. You install those robotic arms and now you need a maintenance team nearby for any potential problems and calibration, you also need engineers from the company that made the robot ready to travel to the factory if it's a major problem. But AI can be worldwide with just increasing computing power. The most common jobs generated are to build more datacenters, which is significant but it's no where near the scale of jobs that will be disrupted. And that changes even more once AI is actually good enough to be a brain for a humanoid robot that can match or exceed human capabilities. Where they can then create their own datacenters. Personally, this is the world I'm looking forward to. I think there will be some hard times for a while as this all takes place, but I do believe it will lead to abundance and give people the option to make their lives wonderful without sacrificing decades of their life to working.
i don't get people who say "there will be new jobs with AGI" like how? if AI and robots are truly better than humans at every job we have today, how is it possible for humans to still be competitive? "but every time new tech arrives, new jobs pop up" sure, for the AIs maybe, you don't see horses being hired for transport anymore. if any job were to emerge in the post-AGI era, definitionally AGI would be able to do it better. any company that could be founded would be founded by the AGI before you got there. if it needs dexterity, a humanoid robot already has it. i do not understand how people building cars can tell you with a straight face that there will still be an economy for carriage riders.

This is like when a restaurant has a grilled cheese on the menu for like $10. Naked tenders is some chicken, with seasoning, then baked. Less than 5 minutes of prep. then tossed in the oven or air fryer.
Raising Cane’s Naked Tenders might be the new meta as far as fast food meal options go Only 420 calories and 78 grams of protein These appear worth looking into….

I am not the biggest fan of Ozempic, It's something that my friends and I disagree with. However, I see it as the lesser of two evils. I would rather see someone on Ozempic, even if they can't maintain that lost weight when they stop, or even if they get addicted to Ozempic to make maintaining their weight easier, than seeing someone that's obese. Even the rare side effects are better for them than what could happen if they remain obese. Being on Ozempic for their entire life will be better for them and a better use of their money than buying more junk to eat and the consequences to their health from those choices. I would rather see people do it on their own. Almost everyone who loses weight will regain it. But the rate they regain it is slower from lifestyle changes than drugs. But if they fail every time they try to do it on their own, than I'm glad there is an option available to them.
People who lose weight on Ozempic are viewed worse than people who don't lose weight at all: study trib.al/5JhdcWm

I don't understand parents like that. My kids will be welcome at home until they are ready to start a family of their own. But it will be a "my house, my rules" home. They will not be lazy, they will also have chores, and they will be employed or handing out resumes daily.
“When my kids turn 18 they are OUT, and I’m not giving them one cent more.” You’ll save more money every Christmas when you don’t get to see your grandkids. Generational responsibility is real.

Absolutely correct. Don't lie to people. Don't enable the things that you know to be harming themselves or the people around them. I have friends with bad habits. I have never lied to them about how I feel about those habits. At the very least, they don't do them around me.
I don't remember where I found this, but its spot on.

As someone who has had weight issues. Even after losing weight, which was a tough journey for me, I still had a consumption problem. That never really went away for me. I combat it with an active lifestyle. I count calories for everything I eat, and I make sure I burn enough calories to either maintain, or lose when I need to lose. I've gotten better over the years, but I still eat more than anyone I know. But it works for me, and I think people need to find something that works for them. And while surgical approaches or drugs can help them lose weight, people need to find a system that actually helps them maintain that weight loss and not gain it back. Everyone is different, but ultimately it will come down to some combination of eating less and/or being more active. It will require discipline, one way or another.

I don't like the idea of being forced into ultimately giving something entirely up that is a hobby to relax. If a man is playing games for hours every day when coming home from work, and even more on weekends, yes I think he should have to give up a significant portion of that if he wants to protect his relationship. But in the past week, I played not even 2 hours of games. If someone told me that I either give up something that takes up no time, that I enjoy doing, or they will leave. I will let them leave just because of how controlling that person is acting, even if the games don't mean that much to me.
To the male gamers out there - would you give up video games if a potential romantic partner wanted you to? Saw a tweet going around from a woman who said ladies find it disgusting when men game and it’s a major turn off as a partner.
5%Yes I would
95%No I wouldn’t

I imagine this is a satire post. But I think it's a real problem in the world. People feel like there needs to be a reward for any effort they put in. The problem comes from how the reward is easy maintaining. it is easier to maintain white teeth than to whiten yellow teeth.

Another big one is weight. It is easier to maintain under 20% body fat than it is to get back to 20% after you're above 25-30% body fat. And even then. People who need to lose weight, if they don't see that 'reward' from their efforts, they become discouraged.

Most people miss this when tracking calories and comparing workouts: their sedentary rate. When you exercise, you're not just adding those calories burned. You're replacing what you would've burned anyway by sitting or standing around. For example, if your sedentary rate is around 75 calories per hour and you burn 250 on the treadmill, your real net gain is only 175. That's why a quick 5K run VS a longer 10K step walk might seem like the 10K steps are better for weight loss. But the runner finishes early and heads back to normal life sooner. To compare them fairly, you need to account for that replaced sedentary time while the walker is still getting their steps in. It's a small detail, but even something as small as 50 calories daily, especially for someone working on weight loss, can be meaningful over days or weeks.
