I'm excited to share our new JEB paper about how honeybee swarms thermoregulate by changing their collective morphology! With @opeleg and @Mahadevan_Lab. doi.org/10.1242/jeb.242234 Thread! 👇 (1/11)

I intended to tag @oritpeleg who was an author on this work. I messed up her handle on the first tweet.🤦‍♂️

This work compliments our previous paper on mechanical adaptation in honeybee swarm clusters (doi.org/10.1038/s41567-018-0…). As it turns out, they change shape in response to changes in both temperature and mechanical loading! (10/11)

Flying cell carpets ! decreasing intercellular cell-cell adhesion (E-Cadherin-mediated) in a patch of mouse skin cells allows to orient their migration collectively with an electric field. Possible applications for wound healing. @DJCohenEtAl disq.us/t/3ug3lwq

A new study shows the dragonfly Pantala flavescens migrates as much as 8,000 miles round-trip between India and Japan. Researchers say the findings show the potential of using stable isotopes to track insect migrations. entomologytoday.org/2020/12/…
