We're bringing stablecoins into the banking system with @Citi.
That means instant stablecoin acceptance for institutions - all on bank-grade, regulated infrastructure.
The next step for stablecoins becoming everyday money.

We're publishing a technical deep dive on Tempo's privacy solution.
Tempo Zones are private execution environments that keep transactions and balances private while preserving access to liquidity on mainnet through exchanges, onramps and DeFi.
Here's how they work:
Patrick Collison's advice to people in their 20s: find where the highest standards are, and go experience them firsthand.
"When I talk to people in other domains, this is so frequently the thing that I hear from them."
"That when they worked with X person or Y organization or in Z environment, they learned what great actually is, and that just permanently changed their sense for what their own standard for their work ought to be."
"Maybe one version of what people in their twenties should do is... figure out, where can you learn the highest standards? Where are the highest standards embodied, and where can you go and experience that firsthand?"

Insurance is a better incentive structure for alignment R&D than philanthropy.
Mechanically, insurers have skin in the game because they pay when stuff blows up. This makes them both keenly interested in R&D to prevent stuff from blowing up and in not getting captured by any particular company. This incentive counteracts the financial capture donations can create. Insurers can sub-contract R&D work to existing organizations doing excellent technical work. (Props to @METR_Evals for getting funded without severe conflicts).
Historically, insurers have funded lots of safety R&D. For example, car crash tests were invented by Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, many thousands of lives saved by fire safety improvements from Underwriters Laboratory, funded by insurers. A bunch of nuclear inspection R&D is funded by the nuclear insurance mutual.
Practically, this requires the existence of an insurance structure that covers meaningful risks. Liability concerns are now top of mind at labs; the grounds are now fertile. You don't need traditional insurance capital to be interested to get started - nuclear power plants cover most losses from their pooled capital in their mutual.

the model training cos freeload tremendously off of NGOs like METR, Redwood, Apollo, and smaller alignment cos like Goodfire. they offload sizeable share of their alignment externalities onto them. they should be injecting billions into organizations they believe in
in some of these cases that’s easy, but in other cases like METR - understandably works very hard to preserve financial independence from the labs. there is a philanthropic market for a third party (I like Coefficient Giving but unfortunately too close to Anthropic) that can credibly be independent of the labs, still accept donations from lab employees, or stretch goal, the labs directly and distribute it to promising organizations and people studying alignment and control
some philanthropy people will groan but OpenAI foundation and similar could offer huge prizes for technical alignment problems or research with verifiable results
in other words the whole ecosystem deserves an injection of some of the vast riches of the labs if this industry is going to realistically self regulate
